Conditions look great, but my main fishing buddy can't make it, so I'd be happy to have some company. Noob alert; I've been out about a dozen times and am starting to get a little bit of a clue, but am still figuring it out, just so you know...

No chrome to report, although I did get a nice 4 lb black rockfish. This was more of a reconnaissance trip and testing out my new FF anyway.  I had trouble finding any water deeper than 20', but looking at my GPS track, the wind and current pulled me much further over toward Duxbury Reef rather than out toward the middle of the bay as I intended, and thus the shallower water.

After chasing the birds for a while, I did manage to catch up with them and find myself in the middle of a bait storm, with anchovies all over the surface and the sky full of seabirds, and this is when I hooked the rockfish. Unfortunately, I found that in my predawn packing I had failed to pack extra sinkers, so that was the end of that.

Surf was small, but I still managed to catch a wave and roll over when I hit the sand. Fortunately I had battened everything down before heading in.

Still, a nice morning, a learning experience, and a nice rockfish to show for it. I think I'll head back out tomorrow and give it another go.

Thanks for the report!

I suggest picking up a Double Deed Six diver. Then you'll never have to worry about running out of lead.

Thanks for the suggestion AlexB, I was trying to replicate the rig I've seen Lost_Anchovy using in his videos, but not dropping $2 balls of toxic metal all over the ocean floor does sound appealing; I'll give it a try.

Mr Anchovy, it would be great to see you and anyone else out there tomorrow. I wouldn't ask to tag along since I couldn't keep up anyway in the tandem barge I have for a kayak, but it would be nice to see some other people out there.

Deep-Six divers  are good since the bite has been shallow over there; i have the sinker release but i also use a down rigger when too.

Feo- Be very (!!!) careful out at Bolinas if your kayak is a barge that doesn't paddle well. If the NW wind picks up like it often does, you might find yourself trying to make an emergency landing at Muir Beach.

Thanks for the warning. I was more worried about getting blown North around Duxbury this morning. Anyway, I am really getting into this kayak fishing thing, so I picked up a Trident 13 today at Clavey. The Malibu 2XL will be relegated to family trip duty only.
