Safeway squid

Seafood City (Asian Supermarket)  carries 3 kinds of squid; small, large and jumbo.  You can buy by the pound.  I am going fishing tomorrow and got 1 Jumbo (cut bait), 4 Large (whole bait) and 5 pieces of Sardines.  Bill was around $8.

Nice thing about Asian Supermarkets is you can buy what need for a day / trip and its fairly fresh.  Once in while they sell fresh dead Jacksmelt and its Ling candy.

I probably should have clarified my first post. Safeway used to carry the good squid in the general frozen section. They have moved it to the fish section in a small freezer next to where they process and package the fresh fish. Ask the person running the seafood counter. They are usually very helpful.

I suspect the safeway in my hood probably doesn't carry the good stuff.

In the restaurant they must be deep frying squid.

I don't go into safeway very often so when I do, I load up on bait, martini onions, gin, and hot sauce
usually get a comment from the cashier of "what the F are you doing with that squid?"
