At the fishing derby in SC yesterday, I hooked into something heavy---definitely the biggest thing I've ever had on the end of my line. It broke off after about 20 minutes, before I could see it. I suspect it was a shark, since a couple of them (smooth-hound, I believe they said...) were caught nearby, and I also hooked something that sliced thru my 30# mono leader just a few minutes before.

Here's a brief video of the first minute or so after the fish hit:

The way it fought was very distinctive, and unlike anything else I've caught. It's probably not noticeable from the video, but usually when it made a run, there was a strange high frequency component, almost like catching a mackerel on light tackle, but with a heavy weight behind it. There were no acrobatics or long horizontal runs, so I don't think it was a thresher. It definitely did not fight like a halibut, ray, lingcod, etc.
It's all in the mind...

The hardest part is not knowing. I've been there!
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...
