I'm looking to get my first kayak. Looking to ocean, bay and lake fish. Thank you for any replies. Hans

Clavey's is a great shop, nice people, too. Just be careful, every time I  go in, I find things I can't do without! Some I need, some are just cool and I couldn't pass up.

Definitely demo different model and brands to find your best fit.

Thanks guys. Gonna swing by clavey tomorrow and look around. I'm gonna try and get a used to start if possible. I'm 6'2" and bout 225. Have been looking at the prowlers and predators so far but since I don't know much about me any words of wisdom are welcome.  As far as budget goes I'm lookin for the best deal, not so much the cheapest price but the best deal overall if that makes sense. Currently in the process of refurbishing a 19 foot boat along with the pending salmon season, halibut that's starting to kick off, and sturgeon. Lol. Plenty of things to spend money on.

Hey, I don't know if you ever get down to Monterey or Moss Landing, but I just bought a used Ocean Kayak Malibu Two XL (that's the longer one rated for 450 lb) for $425 at the Monterey Bay Kayaks stores. One is in Moss Landing and one is right near the pier in Monterey. They are selling their used gear right now. I think the Moss Beach place had at least 15 kayaks for sale and maybe the same at Monterey (That was last Saturday morning).

You still have to add seats and paddles. but I'm pretty happy. And of course you can endlessly pimp your boat with rod holders, hatches, electronices or whatever, but a decent sit on top for a good price is a start.

Good luck- hope to see you out there (look for a lime green tandem this summer)!
