I cannot tell a lie.
My avatar: I am holding one of the most beautiful Fish I have seen. I have seen a few fish. The fish is not mine. I retrieved the fish I did not “Catch” the fish. I cannot tell a lie.
I dropped my buddy’s  “bled and gutted”  40+ lbd salmon off the end of the dock in Noyo Harbor. The look in his eye was pathetic When  the fish slipped out of my hand and  splashed  at th eedge of the dock and butterflied out toward the center of the harbor. He ,Derrick looked up at me, still in the boat, and I knew I had to go get it. His look had nothing to do with why I jumped from the boat to the dock handed my wallet & glasses to Derrick and stepped off the dock. I stepped off the dock because we (14 friends) were all going back to a house we had rented for a 4 day fest. This was day # 1 and I was not going back to that house without that fish. I would have heard of, and still do, about “it” every hunting trip-poker game-fishing trip we were at. This ending, I like better then letting the Furbags get that beautiful fish. I wear contacts so I closed my eyes as I hit the water and the last thing I hear before I go under is Derrick, behind me, saying “Sea Lion” I kept my eyes closed till my feet then knees hit the mud.( it took longer then I thought it should) When I opened my eyes there was no Seal looking for the same thing I was. That is a good thing, right? All I could see was maybe 9 feet. I pushed towards the center of the harbor and realized I could see things, I couldn’t tell what they were just kind of bright. I’m squinting because of my Contacts but I finally see what they are. Fillet carcass’s of salmon. These dead soldiers were from the cleaning station at the top of the Ramp. Dozens of them. I finally notice that one is slightly bigger and brighter so I float over and bigger then**** there it is. I coast up to it and bear hug it, turn around and push hard towards the surface. I kept waiting for the big shadow and tug-of-war to ensue. I came out of the water and almost hit Derrick in the face with his fish. He was bent over with his hands on his knees looking for me. The next thing I know I’m standing on the dock looking back for the seal. I haven’t moved that fast in years! Derrick said as I was handing him my glasses and wallet he saw a Sea lion over my shoulder coming to investigate the splash. It surfaced about 20 seconds later and looked to be as big as an Elk. It hung around at the fillet station and kept giving me these looks.

I didnt need to keep any. we all (who fished hard) limited everyday on salmon and rockfish. After 4 days I went back to chico stuffed the freezer and went back for 3 more days w/my girl and kids. My Daughter almost won the pool w/her ling, but the deckhands brother edged her out. I smelled something fishy. his was a half inch longer, Hers was twice as thick. all in all we came back with enough for most of the year. I vacume seal all game taken and it last.

yeah, i have seen that. kids are good at getting jackpot fish. however, there are tricks to "stretching" a fish a little to edge out fellow competitors.

someone once told me that one way was to break the spine on the fish and pull.

i have never tried this but its a dirty little trick.

they should have gone by weight.
