Went to Howe on Tuesday to try for a first salmon. Reel broke so I only paddled. Big fish were jumping from Howe to Watt, but couldn't see what. No other kayakers, but a few guys in other boats. No one had any action that I saw. I replaced my reel and dragged lures back and forth between the two bridges a couple times. Still some fish breaking the surface, including a steelhead, but no action.
Many fish bites if ya' got good bait.

Can you fish from the shore up there? I have to head up that way for some training. No time to fish of my yak. So im going to try and hit the shore if that is possible.

Yes, there's shore fishing. I've only gone once, for shad, upstream of Hazel so I can't really give you any specific recommendations. Best access for out of towners is probably county park parking lots under Howe or Watt Avenue bridges on the south bank. There are bike trails on the levees on both sides of the river in this area. Parking is $5 in exact change or credit card at a machine. Check out aerial photos on Google or Bing to look for deeper water and places you might want to try. Maybe it will be better fishing soon. Check the regulations if you go farther upstream - at some point you gotta go barbless. When the fish are running you get into combat fishing. Good luck!

There are key spots you have the best bets with spinners... And other shore based catch methods.. Such as flies and roe.

Hit me up when u r up here for training...
