I met up with my friend who is a regular in the North SF Bay Area. I was totally unfamiliar with this area, so his guidance proved to be very helpful. He was also nice enough to let me use his live bait. It was pretty easy fishing. I caught my first one in 10 minutes a 20 incher and shortly afterwards caught my 2nd fish of the day which was 22 inches. I missed like over 10 hits too. I dunno what it is that caused me to miss fish like that... they would take off hard but drop it. Probably have to get to the rod quick and set the hook while it's running before it drops the bait. It might be the circle hooks I dunno, still trying to figure out that piece of the puzzle. My buddy caught one and missed hits too. It was pretty easy fishin' and I had a blast. We were fishing off the bank without a boat. I used a sliding sinker with a 1oz weight and the leader was 25lb test and about 1.5 to 3 feet long with 3/0 circle hooks. Main line was 40lb braid. I  was fishing with medium duty gear (rod & reel) and the fight was good but could have been better. Next time I gonna bring lighter gear like my freshwater bass rods. Pretty stoked to catch striper this early in the season and a limit at that!! (I apologize for having to block the background out, but my friend told me about this spot out of respect for him I want to keep it on the down low).

Nice job there and welcome aboard.

I'm no expert, but I've always been under the impression that with circle hooks, you don't set the hook.  Just let the pressure of the fish run and the hook will lodge in the corner of the mouth.  You might have just had some bad luck with the way the fish were taking in the minnows.

We all have some spots that we can't let it get out in the open,I just don't bother posting the report.nice pair of fish
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

If you were doing that well, that fast, this time of year, I wouldn't let the spot out either.

Good looking fish, thanks for the report.

Just curious,
If you want to keep privacy, why post at all .. and why post in public reports?
Just seems like a contradiction to me.

Glad you had a good day
Nice catch

What's wrong with shopping for some ego boosters? - just kidding  :smt002

In all seriousness, I gave out a general area: North SF Bay Area. That should give you an idea as to where they are.

I believe that's enough information on the location (while still protecting the exact GPS coordinates of where it is) so that

this report is still useful and relevant. Some forums have a rule that forbid posting exact locations for striped bass. Either way,

I believe that reports make the boards more interesting (even if the exact location isn't given out); if fishing forums are slow

and have few reports here and there it becomes boring imho. Besides, exploration and discovering stuff while fishing is half the

fun (at least to me) and I intended this report to motivational and informative. I did give out info on how I caught them. It becomes

a problem when someone posts a one liner and pictures with no relevant info whatsoever or even a mention of the general area.

Happy Fishing,

TPK

He couldn't post in the private forum because he doesn't have enough posts.

With NCKA community, I would have to disagree your logic. We here share knowledge on fishing (including lure models & colors, location & depth), mods/builds on kayaks and even financial resources to those in need; that's what makes us a tight group of individuals...

Hopefully soon you will come to see this about us....
