Looks like CalFire is staffing the local government engine in my neck of the woods.  Granted, CalFire is the district administrator.  Is it really that bad?  Praying for no lightening.

I know Aaron / Pond poacher works for the CDF.

If fact, we have a lot of Fire Fighters - some retired - that are NCKA members. What a job!!! :smt045

You have CalFire guys staffing your local station? If so...

There are a few big campaign fires going on right now, your local dept could have sent some engines out to that, and your local station could be back-filled by CDF, which might be the next nearest fire station/dept. Mutual aid agreement. If that makes sense.

What do you mean by Government Engine? Is it an OES rig you're talking about (light green)? Or does your local city or county government contract with CDF. Like how Seaside Fire Engines in Half Moon Bay have CDF guys riding the engine. Confusing, I know...

PS. I've never worked for CalFire so basically I'm just babbling. I don't know what's going on in your neck of the woods.

Local government is the local district.  Our district is not trained well enough to go out of county. Very rural dept and it gets a little hinky.  Huge geographical area with 3 stations. My former station Is not actually a district station.  We park and train at the Lockwood CalFire station.  We have staffed our volunteer engine in the past like 5 years ago when LA was on fire and actually got paid firefighter wages for it.  The engine they staffed Is a type 3 from one of our other stations.  I just think it is interesting that they are that short of equipment but still have staff.  CalFire is contracted for administration, overhead, maintenance etc.  Contract is like 300k per year.

Jeff, it just like BEU has staff but not equipment.

Not an OES deal.

I think there are either 17 or 19 engines available and 3 dozers.   I'm unsure on crews.  Newspaper said yesterday they were down to 5 engines, one dozer and one crew.

I guess I was just unaware of the current fire situation.

Be carefully out there.  If you injured in a rural area expect to wait.
