I anothe rthread some expressed interest in some fish skins i was trying to cure. Here are some pics on the process:

I soaked the skins in soap overnight, thern rinsed them and scraped them one last time.
I then tacked them, with finishing nails...
Give them a good dose of borax....
after 2 days I rinsed the skins, let them dry for about 3 days, and then took them off the board.

I figure I use them somehow...but ideas would be welcome. I'm thinking of trying to dye some back to their blue color

Nice Sean! I say put them on an art piece and gloss over the whole thing." A ling, what it eats, and what it wears"!

How durable is that skin going to be?
Make some type of book cover or wrap the handle on your favorite fishing stick

growing up in so-cal i used to spend a lot of my teen years in TJ, there was a trend in the mid 80's where every leather/boot shop had these cowboy boots made from rattle snake and/or cobra skin with the head of the said snake on the toe, i think you need to make some lingcod skin boots with a big ole ling head on the toe for the fashion conscience kayak angler :smt044

Well Stu, kayak fishing is a lifestyle, not a hobby, sometimes you have to look at the swell report and say "Hey bud let's party"

Once the skin dries it is pretty tough, similar in texture to thin rawhide. It is tough and somewhat pliable.

 Jeff,

Here's the basic rig, I'll post others with different flare of tails and colors in a bit.
