Do you wax your kayak after you take it out and if so what are the benefits, or does it not really matter if you wax? When I bought my Kayak the previous owner told me he used Caranuba Car wax after he took it out on the water. I keep it stored in my garage, so it gets plenty of care. Does it help the scratches?

Haha LOL!!
Scratches are just part of the game ... kind of like battle scars :smt002
Never used carnuba wax, but deffinatley use a sun protector like 303.
I also store my fleet in the garage, after a few trips, they get a bath with Awsome (from doller tree) than a fresh spa treatment with 303 Protectant (avail at most auto stores)
The Awsome is the best cleaner I have found for getting the Blood and Grime of the yak, and the 303 keeps the sun from damaging the skin on those long days.

Wash it after every use, then take the big motorcycle dryer to it (its like a mini hurricane coming out of that thing).  After that I put in the back yard and cover with a poly tarp.

303 Aerospace Protectant posted earlier is great stuff to give your yak a good shine.  TAP Plastics also caries them.

I just hose em off and chuck them on the rack.  I've had some boats for over 15 years.  I fill the gouges with hot glue.  I do cover them with a tarp when not in use.  They're pretty tough.

My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Last time I washed my kayak was after BSS2; that was the last time I caught any fish of quality... think I washed off all the mojo.... :smt009

Maybe I'll wash it one more time to wash away the skunk/banana junk off it  :smt044

I have had my Pro Angler for three years now and may have washed it less than a handful of times, I may have to break down and wash it this week as there was so much pine tree pollen on the water at a high Sierra lake that I could not see the bottom of the lake right next to the shore and the pollen did a really good job of sticking to the waterline of the yak along with making my pickup almost yellow.   Wax?  We don't need no stinkin wax!  Wax won't do anything to protect against scratches.  What I would recommend is putting "Keeleazy" on the bottom of your Outback.

I wash my kayaks only after a trip in the salt.
Probably twice a year I actually scrub them down.
I tried the protectant on the surface but it made the top too slippery for my liking.

Glad to know, looks like from most replies 303 is the way to go . Thanks!  :smt001

This Keeleazy stuff looks interesting, may consider this as well, it would be neat if there was something for under the whole yak too so i dont feel so bad dragging it around the rocks, cement and sand.

Maybe mine has good mojo from previous owner, so I shall not wash it yet  :smt044

Some Spic&Span and good scrub brush when it gets dirty will make it shine. If salty?, a rinse every once and a while, but be sure to keep your FF plug and/or any electrical connectors coated with some kind of anti-corrosion/die electric(sp?)grease and your all good.....and let drip dry. Keeping it in the garage will make it last FOREVER.
