Ok, this topic may be overdone, like the BBQ chicken I had last night; however, I am wondering what is the best stand alone GPS unit on the market (reasonable $) and since I am due to upgrade from a cheap handheld fishfinder to the real deal, should I get one the fish finder/gps together or does the price go up beyond what it would be for a good basic of each. :smt006

I like my garmin gpsmap 60csx, they quit making them a few years ago but I'm happy with it. I like geocashing with it while not on the water. Combo units have to be mounted close enough to you so you can mark way points and reefs but not interfier with your paddle stroke. The new lowrance mark 4 units are really nice, B & W combo unit is around $199.

I have owned 3 units, one FF only and 2 combo units. I will only use combo units now. Its a lot easier working on one screen. Check out the Lowrance units.

I was pondering this same question yesterday as I was fishing Bodega Bay in pea soup thick fog. My battery power my handheld gps was getting dangerously low. It would have been ideal to have a FF/GPS combo.
