Since we are on the topic of weather and I'm a big NOOB what is considered good forecast? And what is considered don't even think about going out? Just trying to play is safe. Thanks.

knots?
feet?
seconds apart?
anything that start at 15 knots + is a no go
High wind + high swell such as anything over 9' is no go
wind waves of anything over 3' is no go

10 knts or less is good
swell of 5' or less is good
wind wave of 3' or less is good

PS.
Direct West swell means there will be a big crash on shore and a possible yard sale.

Thanks. That really helps, but what about seconds apart from the swells? Is 4 secs good, or too short?

4 seconds is way short. 14 seconds is sweet.
1001, 1002, 1003, 1000swell....1001, 1002, 1003, 1000swell...1001, 1002, 1003, 1000swell
Now count to 14 and toss in the word swell each time.
See the difference?
Now factor in the height of the swell.
That should give you an idea of what to expect.
