ive been wanting to buy a rifle for a while now.ive been looking at the ruger mini-14 tac,you guys got any recommendations along that line/type of rifle.i have a walter pistol that i love cause of its simplicity.easy to take down and clean so i want a rifle thats not so complicated.i really dont want to take it apart and then have to bring it to a gunsmith in a bag.thanks in advance

Go down to big 5 and pick up a mosin nagant for $100, clean it, clean it, clean it. Go get 500 rounds for about $80 and have fun. At the same time pick up an AR lower and start your build, if you like guns you'll end up getting one eventually so you might as well do it right the first time :smt044 mini 14's had some ejection and failure to fire problems a few years ago. so research if you go that route and buy used.

Hi vince,

Are you refering to the mini 14? Although its a decent rifle it isnt the most accurate of the bunch. What are you looking to do with it? Plinking fun? Or hunting? It all depends on what you want to do with it. Too bad i just saw this now. My buddy just got rid of his pof. Also whats your price range. You can always go the route of building one on your own.

Regards,
Vin

Do you mean the Ruger Mini14 in 223 caliber?  If so I would stay simpler and cheaper and get a Ruger 10/22 in .22 cal.  If you really want a 223 go with an S&W M&P 15, or a real AR 15, but be prepared to step up with the bucks.  My two cents- been there done that won't do it again.

Since I see you're in Oakland, BIG 5 in san lorenzo or BIG 5 in el cerrito are decent places to look, close by.  They have a decent selection and always have great sales.  I think the couple of places in Castro Valley lost their FFL, and Traders in san leandro is long gone. I bought a 12 guage a while back from them, and  I just picked up a 10/22  for a great deal, and I got 2000 rounds for $80!  Whatever you get, have fun and be safe!!
