I went back to Oyster Point with my friend yesterday. After having a tough time dealing with the wind on my kayak last week, this time I took my 12' porta boat w/ a 3.9 hp motor. Got into water at about 11 am, went straight out from the pier for about a mile, slow troll with live smelt there for about an hour, no bites, wind started blowing, headed back about half a mile, trolled parallel to shore toward Genetic point for another hour, still no bites. The wind died down, so I decided to head south to about a mile straight off Sierra Point. It was windy there and then it became calm. Half hr later I caught my 1st decent halibut (14.5 lbs) in years. Another half hr went by and my friend got a good hit, but the fish snapped the leader line (probably a good size shark). The wind picked up again and this time it turned very nasty; it was white caps all over the place. We headed back and all along I was praying that my little gas motor would not quit on me, because the water was ugly and a bit scary. Both of us were soaking wet from the sprays by the time we got back to the launch. Another great fishing day!

Hi Mooch, not much was going on from the pier either. One guy was casting a net for bait and he got nothing. 3 hours into high tide and I still see no smelts caught.

my dad was esterday at OP pier. it was slow day some people had fun during short run of smelt, one legal leo shark was caught at the end of the pier. he caught couple very small anchovies and that was all. very slow ....

I was out there last Wednesday and watched a guy pull in about a 30 pound ray. He had fun and then released it. This was on the back side of the point at the opening of the cove of the marina. (Fishing from the bank).
