Update:  it looks like Rob and I will hit it tomorrow (not sure which spot yet), and I'm aiming for Sunday too.

Hard to decide where to go - good problem to have.   :smt001

Looks like I am leaning toward coming over on Saturdat night. Thinking Salmon Sunday. Rockfish Monday. Always nervous about the big blue.  :smt001

Guys - Rob and I are planning to paddle out of Humboldt Bay tomorrow very early.  So hopefully we get our salmon fix out there and get home relatively early to save WAF for a Sunday run.  I might be heading to the Cape Sunday depending on the forecast - right now it's degraded to 5 to 10 knots south of the Cape, and I don't like to push my luck with that forecast as I've seen several times when it's 20 knots at the Cape with that forecast even though it's nice elsewhere.  The forecast north of the Cape is staying 5 knots for now, so Trinidad is a definite possibility for Sunday.  I'll check in tomorrow afternoon.   :smt001

Deep 6 to a dodger then hoochie at the end? What's the hot color for Apex's or hoochies been? And how deep are they holding?

What is the distance between each and lb test? Does it matter the color of the deep six?

Got my first salmon trip of the season on Saturday.  Late start, hit the water around 10:30.  I met "Tony" in a yak just outside of prisoner rock.  I convinced him to go out trolling, I said we needed to be in 130 to 160 feet of water. We trolled on the way out there, and the water looked good, smooth and lots of birds around.   When we got out there I noticed some rain around eureka.  A little later that area had expanded and was heading for us.  The wind started to pick up.  That's when we should have pulled up and sprinted in.  The extra 30 minutes that we waited to turn back proved to be critical for me.  The wind increased some more and so did the waves.  As we were heading in, the waves were hitting from the southwest (hitting my entire right side), as they grew and started breaking, each one nearly knocking me over.  When I got just past the whistle bouy (number 24 i think), a wave broke right on me  :smt013  :smt009 and flipped me over.  I was able to get back in and collect things but I lost my rockfish tackle box and the rod/reel that I picked up for TRWs last October, the flip ripped off 2 of my homemade rod holders off.  So now I was in the washing machine and a few holes in the boat where the rod holders were.  I paddled as fast as I could and after about an hour and a half made it safely around the corner and into the safe harbor.  No fish today, lost some gear, and some lessons learned.  Thanks for tony for making sure I got in.  He has a mirage drive so he made it in quicker than me.  I hope you guys had a better time at the bar today.  I'm waiting for your report.  Be careful out there and heads up.
