Last time I had my hobie in the water was in March up at Freshwater Lagoon in Humboldt.   :smt011   But today I got my wife in a hobie for the first time (now she wants one) and got my daughter, home from college, in one too.   :smt007   We rented them at OEX in Sunset Beach - http://www.oexsunsetbeach.com/

It was not a fishing mission, but I did fish for 2 hours -- and farmed two fish, never saw em, but they bit on the plastic.  Fun on the water, though.

Here's your sign:

Here's your heron.

It's urban fishing at its worst, but it sure felt good to get back OTW.   :smt006

Way to get the ladies OTW, Dave.  We know those two fish you farmed were just juvy halibut anyway - you're expert on those suckah's!   :smt002  Keep in shape and doing your training for some northcoast fun later this month, Bro.   :smt001
Time to focus on quality over quantity.

Hi dbradfield,
I lived in Huntington Harbor/Sunset for a long time, Finally escaped Socal in 1998 (too many people, too much traffic). We used to be able to fish the channel leading out thru the military  area before they enacted the no stopping rule. It was loaded with spotted bay bass and sand bass. Toss small plastics at the wall and pilings as you slooowly travel thru and hope the patrols don't hassle you too much.
Have you fished the bay just inside the bridge at PCH? That used to be a great halibut spot, especially on the incoming tide.
Good Luck, Jim

@ jimgosc -- This was my first trip down there to this area.  I live close to Cabrillo Beach and I'm usually so anxious to get OTW so I tend to go there before anywhere else.  We went to Sunset Beach this time because my daughter wanted to go kayaking (she goes to SJSU) and my wife wanted to try a pedal hobie and I knew OEX would rent them to us and I could put in there and have an outing with the family.

We now have a "foothold" in Humboldt County and I know we will be moving there as soon as we can.  I have no love for L.A. but I do have a good job that I love, in spite of being the chief union "thug." If I can last 5 more years down here, we will.  If everything "goes south" then we may move north sooner. (Has a funny ring to it.)

But Sunset Beach interests me as a place to fish.  The access is free, as opposed to paying for parking at Cabrillo.  I can see the area you spoke about.  I will likely try it out as I love to fish plastics for bass.   :smt006
