Kayak "Crate"

(1/2) > >>

jtkelsey:

I haven't been able to get out much due to a newborn in the house so I have been building or modifying my gear in the small bits of free time that I get.  This project has probably taken me over a month to complete :smt005

I was using my soft-sided fishing bag but I found that I really needed two hands to work the zipper.  So, the majority of the time, it is unzipped.  Knowing that if I yard-sale'd, I would lose everything, I was searching for a better option.  This is what I came up with after some reviewing some other people's ideas.

Still fits the top tray with a foam leader thing in it:

I spent way too much time/money to get flush mounting hardware:

Found a use for the extra scotty rod bases:

Still some minor adjustments, but I hope to try it our soon...back to feeding time... :smt009 :smt003

I wanted to add a bit more about my kayak box.  I ended up ordering rocket launchers to fit the Scotty mounts.  Finally went out this weekend with them and they worked great.  I think that they are my new favorite rod holders.  They don't seem in the way of my elbows.  So far, so good.
Here's the box with rockets:

and my view of the rod tip:

FishingAddict:
If that's your trolling set up.  Its best to have your rods in front of you so you can see the hook up and grab your rod ASAP when you get a bite.  Quick reaction makes a big difference.

Just my 2 cents and congrats on the new baby.

I agree with the trolling advice, you want to keep it out in front of you or you might miss the fishy.  I still haven't quite figured out the best trolling setup for my T-13 as I'm quite new to trolling being a basser and fly fisher.  But there's really nothing like paddling along with some lines out, getting lazy and enjoying the day, trying not to spaz about having twisting/crossing lines, correct lures, whatever....

Love the box mods though!  Really love seeing the creativity with all these/you folks.

Looks great!  And my rods aren't in front of me when trolling...  I set the drag loose and listen for the clicker  :smt002
