Have you thought about trying lead core line instead of a downrigger setup?
Fishing is cheaper than therapy!

Scotty Lake Troller with Scotty mount is probably the way to go.   That clamp version doesn't mount well to anything.  But you can always mount a scotty mount where you want it.  Replace the steel cable with a hefty braid and it will drag less in the water and reduce vibration noises.  I'm using a 2.5lb (i think?) torpedo shaped weight from Fishermans Warehouse thats fairly cheap and has a fin so it goes straight.  I'm wanting to upgrade to something in the 4lb range though, and see if that keeps it directly under my yak.

Great tip Al on the braided line instead of the steel cable.  I'll have to give that a try.
