People have done all kinds of things.  Probably the most durable and simplest solution is to goop a yardstick to it, (ala Otobepelagic).

I've often thought of making my own ghetto non-approved Hawg Trough out of a raingutter.   :smt003

Fuzz, I roll with the ghetto gutter trough, just trimmed the height down a bit, slapped on a $3 sticker and it's good to go.  Not as pretty, but it gets the job done.

These work well and each participant at GS has gotten one for the past two years.  This year's will be an exciting new shade!   :smt001

They last for months and are cheap.  When they're fresh, the rigidity of the lamination follows the cupping of the Hawg Trough and actually helps to cradle a fish in the extension - It's a beautiful thing - especially for less than $.20/each...  or was it $.50/each?...  I'll have to check that out, but either way it's worth it for simplicity.  I like the trough interest.   :smt001
