Hi, my name is Joel aka "Mooch"....I have 4th Stage Cancer....and I was not responsible enough to have myself checked by the doctor sooner so now I'm paying the price....PLEASE GET YOURSELF CHECKED AT LEAST EVERY 3 to 6 MONTHS TO A YEAR. Don't make the mistake I made.

Even though you feel and look Healthy, you can still be screwed from the inside.

Take care of yourself and everyone around you...life is short enough as it is!

Spread da word / Thank you !!!!

Oh my goodness.  I knew you'd been diagnosed but I guess I missed to what extent.  Where is it located?

* and being fishermen, we are good candidates of too much sun exposure.....protect your self!!!!

Here's a great example (and a nice person to boot :smt001)

*even though I always give jedmo a hard time and call him an "infidel"...(or the Filipino Michael Jackson) he takes the proper precaution and I salute him for it   :salut:

....I'm getting the results of my Biopsy next week. Doc took a bone fragment off my spine and sent it away for testing - to find out what type of cancer it is. They stuck me in the back - at the topside on my butt crack - with a needle and scrapped away....I was awake during the procedure but sedated in the said area. It was painfull visually.......the good thing is that I was sent home the same day - (had to stay for 4 hours for observation before I was released)....let's just say Vicodin is my best friend at the moment  :smt002

Coincidentally, June is Men's Health Month  http://www.menshealthmonth.org/
and this week is Men's Health Week  http://www.menshealthmonth.org/week/index.html

Here's this month's ACS Cancer Awareness Calendar  http://www.cancer.org/
    * National Cancer Survivors Day (June 6)
    * National Menís Health Week (June 14-20)
    * Menís health/cancer awareness (Fatherís Day: June 20)

July is UV Safety Month, but don't wait 'til then to use the sunscreen.  :smt002

Joel

If you are feeling fine then a checkup once a year should be fine. If you have symptoms, get them checked out. Cancer screening for men doesn't start until 40-50 years for prostate and colon cancer. There is no routine screening for other cancers for men. Don't be too hard on yourself my friend. A few months earlier may not make a difference in the long run. We all make the best decisions for the most part given the information we have.  Hindsight is always 20/20. What does matter is what we do moving foreward. Hang in there.

Nicely said Scott.

Joel, excuse my ignorance, but if the doctors don't have the biopsy results, how can they tell that it is stage 4?  You're a stronger man than myself; I was wincing in pain just reading what they did to you.

Thanks Mooch for putting the reminder out there

"And that Jimmy is the story of the first colonoscopy"

I saw that on an "old guys"  birthday card years ago and it always stuck in my head, well all my co-workers now know the full blow by blow story of MY first colonoscopy.

But seriously, the prep was unpleasant, but that's all just unpleasant, and the procedure from start to finish was really no big deal (sedated of course).  And the five women in the exam room were a kick, said they were having a party and I was invited,

The best part was waking up half-way thru and seeing my very own insides up on the bigscreen, Woo Hoo..

It's just not that big of a deal, If you're in the age bracket "get'er done".

My doc said yeh it's unpleasant but think of the alternative.
