served my country as a coastie aux and middle school teacher.  now retired to pass on the mistakes & insights of the past 69 years along with the unmitigated holy experience of returning to the ocean, pedal to the metal.

This is a very cool thread.  I moved to Santa Cruz from Mesa Arizona in May of 2011.  I work for the USGS as a hydrologic technician.  Our office is one of about eight field offices in California.  We operate 46 real-time  stream flow  gages from Halfmoon Bay to Paso Robles.  When I’m not wearing waders at work, I’m wearing a wetsuit on the yak.  Now if only I can convince them to let conduct “fish samples” at work, I’d be set!

Funny shit, my wife and I moved out to Goodyear Az from Santa Cruz a couple of years back. After about a year we headed back here to Santa Cruz. See you around.

Moving FROM Santa Cruz to Goodyear must have been rough.  AZ is cool but but Im very happy to not be there anymore.  Phoenix is just too large/HOT.  Ill bet your gald to be back too.

New to this site and Kayak fishing.  I saw a fishing show on TV about ocean kayak fishing and it was like a light went on and I think I heard music.

I work for SMUD (Sacramento Municipal Utility District) as a Sr. Telecommunications Tech.  I take care of 2-way radio, microwave, security systems, phone systems, SCADA, fiber optic, hdrography, weather data, etc.  I work up in the mountains on our hydro electric program, the Upper American River Project.  I'm around lots of lakes in the Crystal Basin area mostly and I've been fishing them for over 40 years.  I'm looking forward to retiring this year.

Tell the truth!  Who here would act on the urge to quit it all and go work on a farm or be a ranch hand or something?  living a clean healthful lifestyle sounds pretty damn appealing if you axe me (sometimes)

Software security consultant, fancy way of saying paid hacker but the legal kind. Also teach a lot of classes on software security.  I get to travel a lot, just had the brilliant idea to get a portable pole and try fishing all over the country.  Anyone else ever try and have feedback on if it was worth it?

I work at Wells Fargo as a web developer/programmer building and architecting business applications on the front end/presentation layer using javascript, html, css, java and a buncha other junks.  At night im an on/off musician.  During younger years i spent my time on the road with Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and Wynton Marsalis playing saxophone and clarinet.  Settled down and got a  "real" job when my dad got sick and I had my first child.  My awesome wife and 2 kids keep me grounded and happy.

That's the nutshell.

I was lucky to retire at 46 from Asset Management. I am currently raising my two grand sons 2 yo and 4 mo.
I am also working part time, for the fun of it, for Burning Man as the Chief of logistics for the Emergency Services Department.

About 3 months ago I discovered on you tube guys catching big fish on small kayaks. I'm hooked.
