One more example of how CDFW is running on feeling and emotions, and not real science. When they do listen to a scientist, it is one that hired for the results they are looking for.

I know this is going out on a limb here, but Laura and I are going to drive over Sat morning. Neither one of us have experience catching perch. Who wants to let us tag along? :smt008 We fished for perch at Crab Fest 2 years in a row and haven't caught anything! I'll swear on one of FM1's Coors lights I won't tell wear we are taken :smt005

Get there early and he shouldn't have a problem.  He may be asked to park in dirt parking, right side just before you enter day use parking.

Craftsmen's Corner / Re: DIY Crab buoy w/float
« on: January 20, 2019, 04:12:16 PM »
While it makes if easier to see the buoy from a distance; the buoy should actually be able to dive under the surface during moderate swell. This will keep the crab pot from "walking"; especially since we crab kayak do not use that much weight in our pots.

In addition, there is a higher possibility that a rouge bull kelp will get easier snagged on that style float and drag our pot....

the float should be just buoyant enough to keep the weighted line visible enough to find when in the close proximity of the pot; even if slightly below the surface on a swell....

A good GPS mark at 'full' zoom on the map will help you find the pot.

This!!

If I ever make it to South Africa, that is TOTALLY on my bucket list. Maybe I should weld my own cage though!! :smt044

They used to do it here at the Farallones islands in the early 2000's not sure if they are still doing it though.

Just checked their website
http://www.greatwhiteadventures.com/

Too expensive for a low % chance of actually diving with one. SA is the place for this.

Not in tournament but hope to attend. Enjoy your get together Victor. Might just bring my aluminum  like last year , drop some pots and chill. Hope to score on a campsite cancellation before then, unless someone has room for a truck and 16 foot aluminum for some gifted crab.  If all else fails, I will be kayaking.  :smt001

Alex

Where do I buy raffle tickets for the boat??? :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

FYI, when the sweel is large the crabs go deep, deeper than 100 feet, or bury themselves in the sand. Otherwise they get pushed around, just like crab pots. Its not worth crabbing in big seas in shallow water.

You should be able to put a level on the weep screed, right where stucco stops. Do a little investigation before you call an engineer out. You may be able save yourself a lot of money. You just get a long piece of string and go corner to corner of house, then put a level on string. do this to the side you suspect and each wall connecting to this wall.
