General Talk / KOKATAT ROCKS!
« on: August 24, 2018, 01:49:14 PM »
I have been using a Kokatat Gortex drysuit for several years and have never had a complaint.  I sent it to Kokatat earlier this week to have the gaskets replaced for the second time.  After prepaying both the return freight and the $150+ for the work, I received an email from Kokatat this morning, informing me that they would be sending me a brand new suit due to an issue with fabric de-lamination.  It really does pay to do business with a great American company! In addition to the new suit, they are refunding me for the prepaid repairs.  The price of the new suit would be $1175 if I were to purchase it.

I lost my Ego rubber net at Albion.  Rather than replace it with the same thing, I thought I would reach out to the "community" for recommendations.  I would like to get something that I could land a salmon with but my primary use would be for rock fishing and Ling Cod.  What should I get?

Thanks,
Martin

For Sale / OS Systems Dry suit - first $50 takes it
« on: June 24, 2018, 11:18:24 AM »
LOWER PRICE :   NOW $50.00 delivered to Albion or P/U in Danville

I have an OS Systems Drysuit, size medium that I picked up for my son.  Unfortunately it doesn't fit him and he tore one of the ankle gaskets, trying it on.  Other than that tear, it's in like new condition.  It has only been used a couple of times in fresh water for waterskiing Tahoe.  Its a rear entry suit and does not have a relief zipper. It's very bright, hot pink, yellow and black in color. It has ankle gaskets and straps as opposed to sewn-in booties.  I did an internet search to find out what it's worth and it looks like around $500 new.  I had all of the gaskets replaced in my Kokatat suit for around $150 if I recall correctly.  I wouldn't think replacing the single torn gasket would cost much.  I would like to get $100 for it and can deliver it to Albion, next month or it can be picked up in Danville.  Pm me if interested.

General Talk / Growler for Shelter Cove
« on: May 05, 2018, 01:23:51 PM »
I just received information from the new Gyppo Brewery in Shelter Cove that they will be open Thursday through Monday.  This is great news but I'm traveling to the cove on Wednesday and would like to pick up a growler from somewhere on the way.  Hopefully not far off of 101.  Can anybody suggest a good brewery to stop at on the way?  Maybe a lunch stop and a growler to go?  I will be traveling north on 101 so I'm looking for somewhere south of Garberville.

Thanks,

Martin

General Talk / Trailer Wheel Bearings Question
« on: April 15, 2018, 04:14:38 PM »
I have a Shorelander PWC trailer that I transport my yak with.  My son replaced the inner and outer bearings,  races and seals and packed them with marine grease.  The hubs have bearing buddies but I never back the trailer into the water.  My question is: Is there any point in pumping the bearing buddies full of grease since they will never be submerged?  The bearings have been "power packed".  I have never had bearing issues with the trailer, it just seemed like the right time to replace the original bearings which must be around 20 years old.

Thanks,

Martin

General Talk / Woodpeckers eating my Birch trees
« on: April 11, 2018, 04:15:14 PM »
Anybody know how to get rid of a Woodpecker?  It's actually a Yellow Bellied Sap Sucker from what I have read.  It hollowed out a big birch tree in my front yard which killed the tree.  Today I saw and heard one pecking at another birch tree.  I know you can't shoot them but does anyone know of a way to stop them from destroying my trees.  The last tree was completely hollowed out and nothing was left of the trunk but a hollow bark shell about half way up the tree.  These trees are about 20+ years old and I hate to see them destroyed by "Woody".

General Talk / Shimano Tranx Reels
« on: February 03, 2018, 10:21:56 AM »
Does anybody have a Shimano Tranx reel?  I'm thinking of buying one for rock fishing and possibly salmon but wanted to get a users opinion before I spend the money.  I generally use a Shimano Curado and have been happy with its  performance but I'm looking to upgrade to something a little better.

Thanks,

Martin

For Sale / Old School CD changer
« on: November 25, 2017, 08:59:05 PM »
I have an old CD changer that's just taking up space in my garage.  I think it holds 150 CDs, possibly more.  I don't want anything for it if there's someone who can use it.  I know it's old technology but it was really cool in it's day.  PM me if interested.  I'm in Danville but could bring it to Crabfest.

Hobie-Dave, Ghost and I will be hitting HMB Wednesday morning for one last shot at the dungies before the season closes.  There could be some salmon trolling and rock fishing happening too.  The plan is to meet around
7:30 and launch from HMB Kayak.  Company welcome.  We will be on channel 69 as usual.

I'm looking to have my backyard landscaping refurbished now that the drought is over.  I'm not sure if I'm going to need sod replacement or if it can be augmented with cultivation and seed. It looks pretty green currently but there are bare patches.  It's about 125' X 20+'.  I have a large but gentle dog so I'm looking for practicality and durability more than aesthetics. The entire area is sprinklered and I would like to keep the sprinkler damage and replacement to a minimum. For the right price, this could be a cash deal but I would want a firm bid before proceeding. Anybody interested.  PM me if interested in taking a look.  I'm in Danville.

Wanted To Buy / RV Curtains
« on: February 17, 2017, 01:16:31 PM »
I would like to replace the curtains in my Roadtrek Class B RV.  They're basically flat panels of fabric with snaps to hold them on top and glides that attach to each side.  I don't know anything about sewing but they look like they would be very easy to make by simply copying the existing ones.  Do we have any members who can do this kind of sewing and would be interested in taking on a project like this?  I have no idea what it would be worth but I would be willing to pay a fare price for the labor and materials.

Thanks,

Martin

General Talk / Takata Air Bag Recall for Subaru, Honda and others
« on: November 17, 2016, 10:55:22 AM »
TAKATA Air Bag recall:  My 2011 Subaru Outback has the Takata air bag recall issue, making it unsafe for anyone to sit in the front passenger seat.  I received a letter from Subaru instructing me not to let anyone ride in the seat until the air bag recall has been completed but due to the lack of available parts, the time frame for the repair is unknown.  I contacted the dealer and explained that this restriction makes my vehicle useless to me.  Yesterday, they provided me with a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe AWD from Enterprise Rental to use until such time as my recall can be completed. The estimate for the time when parts will come in, varies from a few weeks to a few months. They didn't keep my Subaru and asked that I just park it until I hear from them.  The entire cost of the replacement car is being picked up by Subaru.  I have been told that Honda will do the same thing if requested by the car owner.  I thought this was worth sharing since the car manufacturers have not been forthcoming about this option.

Note:My insurance agent also recommended that I suspend all coverage except comprehensive since the car will not be driven for an undetermined time period.   As he said "why pay the premium if you're not using the car  I have parked it in my garage and attached a battery tender.
