Had a little luck at a small pond in Newcastle

Newbie advice needed :smt010

I'm looking to respool my baitcaster (rod is a MH 7ft) and my spinning reel (Size 30 and rod is a M 6.6).  I fish in freshwater.

Am I better off spooling both with flouro as I am usually fishing lakes and not throwing into heavy cover or should I go one with braid , both with braid? tie a flouro leader on the braid?  I typically use the spinning rod for my plastics and my baitcaster for my crankbaits.  I can't afford to buy more reels so they have to work as a multi-purpose set up. Any advice on brand, type etc as searching through the internet can be mind numbing to say the least.

Finally; I want to keep the cost to no more than $25 per spool if I go flouro.

hopefully someone doesn't mind giving their $0.02   :smt012

Finally, I will be otw and will get in some much needed fishing therapy both days.  Thinking Folsom or Natomas on one day as they are the closest but I will avoid Rattlesnake bar as I have been there done that and skunked it too many times.  Second day will be either Rollins, Fuller or further up (Donner?).  Anyone else heading to any of these places this weekend?  Or if you have been recently, how was the bite?  (not asking for your secret spots to fish, but if Folsom near Browns Ravine or Rollins is on in the morning, I will give it a go before the boat traffic takes over).  That way I can hit Natomas and Fuller in the afternoon where there is zero powerboat traffic.

and i'll have a report on Monday.  May also try to fly cast from my vibe if conditions allow

General Talk / Garage Rack for 11ft Kayak (need to buy not build)
« on: April 16, 2019, 04:56:55 PM »
I'm downsizing from a 4 car to a 2 car garage and will need to store my kayak on the wall of the garage.  A hoist will not work at the new home.  Does anyone know of a good low cost solution for a rack on the wall of a garage (I trust you all more than I trust the internet)

I've finally have time open to get otw.  Thinking of going out to Folsom (Rattlesnake Bar) or Nimbus on Saturday and Sunday driving to Englebright or Clementine or Rollins.

For Sale / Vibe at Headwaters
« on: March 01, 2019, 02:09:02 PM »
Looks like Dan is blowing out his vibe sea ghosts to make room for the 2019 models coming in.  Great deals on a really good kayak.  I can attest as I bought mine at paddlefest last year and as a newbie to kayak fishing I am thrilled with my 110.  The 2019 prices will be $200 more than what these are selling for!!  With that, you can buy the upraded center console that the 2019 will have and have money left to buy a life vest or upgraded paddle.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / newbie on the Delta
« on: August 14, 2018, 10:42:15 AM »
I am thinking of trying the delta for the first time ever.  I am looking at White Slough and the area between Paradise Point and King Island Marina as a possible area to pop my delta cherry.  I am completely unfamiliar with the region but the view from google map makes this area look very fishy for LMB/SMB.  Any words of wisdom/advice or better locations for a first time experience?  Also, will I need an Ocean validation or is the standard license sufficient?

Needing some on the water therapy this weekend.  Not sure where yet so I thought I would ask here if anyone has any suggestions.  Tired of getting skunked on the North Fork of Folsom, plus the boat traffic can get insane even in the 5 mile zones.

General Talk / Basic Training

My son shipped out to JBSA Lackland last week to start his career in the Air Force.  I'm proud of him but I have also lost my fishing and golfing buddy.  I'm sure some of you out there know where I'm coming from.  And to all of you that have served, THANK YOU!!

I'm planning to take my kayak on its maiden voyage to Folsom this weekend.  I am thinking of launching from the Rattlesnake Bar ramp or the Granite Bay ramp.  I'm hoping some of you veterans can impart some wisdom on a newbie on a new kayak.  I have fished up and down the shores around both areas but this will be my first time on the water.  :smt003

General Talk / Opinion on vibe sea ghost
« on: April 16, 2018, 10:10:52 AM »
I'm about to spend $900 or less on a paddle kayak and will be testing out some kayaks this weekend in Lodi.  Any advice from anyone with experience will help as i am a newbie to this.  I plan to fish lakes (no rivers or oceans) and perhaps the delta once i gain enough experience.  My budget is tight but the vibe seaghosts seem to get nothing but positive reviews and the 110 and 130 will fit in my budget.  I am 6 2 and 210lbs.  My center of gravity is high so I do not anticipate standing. :smt003

Introductions / Hello from Roseville
« on: April 03, 2018, 10:16:11 AM »
Hello, I'm new and about to get into kayak angling.  I plan to head down to Headwaters Kayak and test paddle as many kayaks under $1,000 that I can during paddlefest.  Until then, I am stuck on the bank or wading into a river.   :smt001
