Safety First / Re: Toxic algae locations

Try this ...

Look for the large orange markers. Those are positive tests from the last two weeks.

Much better.  Thank you for sharing.  The other report seems to list every area that has had algae in the past whereas this link shows the date.

Uni2 uni Palomar on the swivels. I’ve never had an uni2 uni fail. 8 wraps on the braid. Five on the mono or floro topshot. Cheers.

+1  (Easy to tie OTW and strong)

looks like an average weekend on the North Fork of Folsom Lake. :smt011

All jokes aside, I have had a powerboat on the Delta buzz me, loop around and do it again.  it was "fun" for them.  i mentioned it at the marina and the response I got was indifferent so I have stayed away from the Delta ever since.

Introductions / Re: Expecting a kayak next month.

EB, you are not too far away from Lodi and it would be well worth it to demo yaks with the guys at Headwater Kayak.  They will be able to show you and let you demo yaks that come in around your budget.  It will be well worth your time if just for the wealth of knowledge they will give you.

On the water demo is so important that it can not be understated.  Buying without trying is a quick way to be disappointed once out on the water.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Rockfishing is too expensive for me

I've never been rockfishing, but I have done my fair share of tree fishing in lakes  :smt003

To me it is just part of fishing, similar to how losing golf balls is part of golfing.  Both I find to be very frustrating when it's not going well, exhilarating when it is going well, and at the end of the day I am tired, relaxed and ready to go do it again.

Losing a lure when it happens is a bummer, but then it gives me a reason to go buy more :smt001

I would think you would find a lot of rod holders by the bathroom  :smt044

General Talk / Re: Missing Kayaker
« on: July 30, 2019, 04:36:05 PM »
Strange that there is not more info by now...

Either a very bad ending, or the person does not want to come forward.

If it was a bad ending, I would believe that an abandoned vehicle would have been located by know (it's been over a week).

If the rumor of the kayaker getting picked up and brought back to shore sans yak is true, then the individual is either afraid of repurcusions for not reporting the abandoned kayak or just doesn't want to be found for whatever reason.  idk.  but i would want my kayak and my gear back if it was me.

Hopefully the rumor is true.

Secondarily, if so, seems a little unusual that neither the one that fell in nor the one that rescued the kayaker have come forward.

hopefully all is well but it doesn't look good.  What is really odd is that people onshore reported watching the kayak for about two hours as it was upside down before reporting anything.  Since there was fishing gear and fish onboard, I get the feeling that the person on the kayak flipped it and wasn't able to get back in.  I hope I'm wrong

A few things I learned from scuba diving that translate well to kayak fishing but aren't always practiced is to know your limitations, go with a buddy (not always practical when fishing), and let someone else know where you are going.

News out of Cambria is that the Coast Guard has stopped searching, but may come back with a larger vessel.

I have  the same kayak as in the photo (only exception is mine is blue), but I respect the ocean enough not to take an 11ft kayak out into open water (and I always wear a life vest).  Stories like these are far to common unfortunately.

Cheap kayak, possibly no pfd? Hoping for the best... Wish folks listened and wore PFDs all the time on the water....

I would say that the kayak is inexpensive but well made.

Had a little luck at a small pond in Newcastle
