I know no pictures equal didn't happen but the image will be burned into my memory for who knows how long.

So me and friend of mine and another guy decide to try and chase down some halibut or seabass this morning. We launch out of moss in my friends boat and head to the pajaro area. No love, make a few more stops headed north and  eventually make are way a few hundred yards south of the old sponge bob just south of capitola.  We had been pestered by frickin croakers stealing our bait all day and the small sandabs were not producing any love as well.

So I decide to send down a croaker over the small reef that is near the old sponge bob marker. We are in maybe 40 feet of water. I start to see my line load up and quickly grab my rod from the holder.I am thinking it is a lingcod or even halibut. As I raise the rod It begins a slight bend and a few pounds of pressure and bang it goes limp.  Within in seconds I am still looking in the direction of my line because it had actually raised up.

What I believe to be a Great White Shark comes totally airborne and broadside to us about 45 feet away. It was AMAZING. My friends turn to see only the last half it going back to the deep Blue. The exclaimed, What the frick was that ?  Truly an awesome sight.

I estimate the shark to be pushing an easy 10 feet. It reminded me of a teenager laughing in my face as it stole my bait and went airborne.

Wow, that must have been an awesome sight to see.

I used to fish from my puny 11' kayak all the time in that exact spot....
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

Awesome! I didn't think GWS got airborne around here until I saw mine up north coast towards Davenport in July. Thank God I was in my boat also.

Was surprised to see anything come up from that area. The water was really, really dirty in that area. Very brown.

Thank goodness no one from this club EVER seen my first kayak. It is made by Crow I believe . A blue 7 foot bath tub. I used it about 4 times at lake del valle where I met Mooch who introduced me to this great club. What a great guy. He never smirked or giggle once seeing me in that beauty.  :smt003

"I didn't think GWS got airborne around here"

Neither did I until a sailing buddy caught one breeching on his GoPro off Alameda, seconds before capsizing his Laser. He didn't see it until watching the video at home later.

My brother in law saw a 10-12 footer breech about 50' away from him near the weather buoy in Tomales last week. His first thought was to climb out of his kayak onto the buoy and call for help, but he thought better of it and paddled in instead. No more solo trips for him.
