Thanks to everyone who attended the ARW 2017 tournament. It was a great success for the inaugural event, and we appreciate all those that came out to participate or just to attend the potluck and raffle.
Here are the official results!!
First Place: (KING OF THE WALL)
Steve S. (29.5 inch halibut and 12 lbs)
Second Place: (QUEEN OF THE WALL)
Ako Culver (26 inch and 8 lbs)
Third Place: (POACHER OF THE WALL)
Rob Knoles (Racin Rob) (24 inch and 4 lbs)
I also want to acknowledge Anthony (Gearaddict) and Tiny fro stepping in and assisting us with event Logistics. Their help really made the even go smooth and enjoyable for all those involved.
Finally, the ARW organizing committee will be donating 2,200 dollars raised from the tournament to PIF!!
We look forward to organizing the 2018 ARW tournament, and with all the small halibut caught this year, expectations will be high for next year!

Victor, we are planning to purchase a Large cooked pig, fruit and drinks as the main dish for the event.
We would like to hold a NCKA style side pot luck for the event for those want to bring extra to share. If you want to purchase separate tickets for the lunch portion just send me a PM and paypal me $5 dollars. --Keith

I will start posting the list of people who signed up when I get a little time. I'm gonna scope arw when the weather clears up and see what is the halibut situation is out there. There have been some halibut action at oyster point but a lot of small ones. There is a ton of bait all overy tho. Hopefully it is the same at arw. I'll scope out the halibut hotel and see if anyone has checked in and overstayed their reservation. :smt001

Question, i sliced the first 2 fingers of my left hand at work Wednesday. I lost part of the first, the second took 14 stitches to re-attach. I'm registered for the tourney but doubt I'm going to be able to paddle. Any issue with my son utilizing my registration? No kayak experience but a group event probably isn't a bad place to learn, plus it gets him out of the house and off the video games.
I'll show up either way but fishing is most likely not going to happen.

OK We are coming to the final day of early registration. After June 5, you will not be able to get the ARW tourney shirt. It's a good one. Once it closes, i will be putting in the orders and it will be final.
The shirts will be delivered on event day. Ariel has taken care of the main course (Paid and awaiting delivery)
We will post up the PIF raffle prizes when they get collected and the ARW tourney trophy when it is done.
Excited to get this thing going. Can't believe it's been almost a year since Ariel and I considered putting this thing together. Gonna be a good one --Keith :smt001

How do you fish for Halibut????????????????
1) First you tie up in the middle of a very large raft of fishing kayaks and drop your line straight down.
2) Follow instructions in video posted by Naoaki

Grrr, typed a response and fat fingers hit Esc.
The list shows me (Robert Lightfoot) instead of my son (Hunter Lightfoot). I had a Dr apt today. The meat they sewed back onto my finger isn't exactly mending. They glued and taped it down and said come back in a month. Worst case is they just cut it out and let it heal like the other finger. Shots between the knuckles bring the major suck. :smt012

It doesn't say that now so I can't read it. Are you thinking about the registration with t-shirt cut off. I was told that the plan had been to register until the Friday before the event so I think we're talking two different cutoff dates. Nothing to get excited about. We can still attend, fish and have fun.

To: Registered Participants
From: ARW tournament committee
The tournament organizing committee thanks you for registering for the ARW tournament, and we look forward to seeing everyone on June 17, 2017. Here are a few items to keep in mind before and on tournament day.
SAFETY
Safety is the top concern for us. We want to make sure everyone has a great time and come home safely. Remember to bring a functioning PFD, and VHF radio--these are mandatory items for the event. The personal floatation device must be worn at all times during the course of the event, and channel 69 is the designated communication frequency for the VHF. Please keep the channel clear for emergency communication.
WAIVERS
All participants must sign the mandatory safety waiver before launch. Jon (Crazyfisher) will be handling registration on event day.
Parking & Launch
There is limited parking space at the Encinal parking lot. We recommend carpooling with a friend if possible, and arrive early for the event. Participants can park in the designated parking spots and along the chain-fenced wall.
Participants can launch at the boat launch or the beach adjacent to the rock wall. Please keep one lane open for boaters.
PIF Raffle
Don’t leave right after 2 p.m. ,there is a great lunch prepared and the Pay it Forward raffle! Many of our generous sponsored have provided great prizes for the raffle. Remember all the funds generated from the event will be donated to help support victims and supporters of cancer—our fellow friends.
RAFFLE TICKETS will be sold at the event and will be CASH ONLY.
Once again thanks for registering and we look forward to a great event!
Tight Lines,
Team Lost Anchovy

Bring a cast net and try to catch some on the inside wall at the corner. Throw out breadcrumbs and cat food to get the top smelt to bunch up.

Just picked up the shirts for the event from the NCKA member/ printer buddy. Everything looks to be in order.

Getting excited for this one. Wasup with the live bait status and can anyone loan a kayak for the day of the event for a buddy of mine? Not picky.
Bring a cast net and try to catch some on the inside wall at the corner. Throw out breadcrumbs and cat food to get the top smelt to bunch up.
So cast nets are allowed?

For catching live bait only!

I remember pulling up a stingray in my cast net, what an unexpected mess...

Anyone passing through Ukiah on their way to this? Need an NCKA Express kayak pick up from SBD (Sean) in Ukiah.

I probly wouldnt bother but since this is closed to new entry I will. I am entered but it looks like I can't fish saturday. If there is somebody out there that really wants to compete and is not in, maybe you can have my spot.
If there is, maybe you could ask Lost Anchovie if it's OK. I could be there in the morning to pick up $25 if we get the OK. I'm 20 minutes away, I want to check it out anyway. The six year old reason I can't fish usually gets up around 7 on saturdays.

Does the Encinal Ramp have a fee for parking?

NOPE! Free parking
There is a fee though for when you bring in a Halibut. I will be collecting 1/4" Filets.
-
So any advice about this area, I have only fished there once. Is the fishing good in the cove where you launch or is it best to work the wall. Where is the flagpole people talk about?
:smt006

Stay right near the launch ramp -- it's the best. :smt045

I'm bringing a pot of chili, bowls and spoons. Can bring table and propane burner if needed.

That is fine with me to transfer. There are a few people who are trying to get in and will more than happy to take your spot in the morning.

just a reminder to check in with me. As you check-in I will verify rather you signed the waiver or not as well as get your goodie bag and shirt.
The tournament safety meeting will be at 7:00. I will be checking in people until 9. If you do not see me, you can find Keith or Ariel. I will have 4 clipboards with the waiver on them out near the boat launch.
See you guys in a few hours. Let the big bootay win. Weather should be awesome. Looking forward to it :)
also there will be a white 65 qt pelican cooler out near the check in or around the Grey 4runner that will have water and gatorade for you guys. Help yourself :)

Thanks to all involved in the organization of this event. Had a great time, even though I didn't get my net wet. Pot luck was awesome. Thanks again!
-
BIG Thank you's to Ariel, Kieth, Jon, Shifra, and everyone else that helped out. We had good conditions for the tourney and a lot of halibuts were caught. I only caught shakers and a leopard shark but it was a great day to be OTW. Thanks again guys! :smt001

Awesome event,
Unfortunately, didn't get there in time to hit the water. But made it there in time to grab a clutch of raffle tickets and hit the chill. Got to see a few brothers (and sisters) I haven't seen in a while.
Enjoyed a sample of that delicious pig and a few other delectables. After catching up and enjoying the feast, had the opportunity to congratulate the top anglers, than came the raffle.
All I can say is ... I was VERY lucky and a big THANK YOU to Tammy at California Canoe & Kayak.
Looks like I'll be making a special trip to Oakland in the near future.

Sorry guys. I'll get a report up by tomorrow. All the organizers have been pretty tired today and enjoying fathers day.
Yes Rob got third and a very nice award. Lol. I'm glad he got a flattie tho. Most were on the small size but we got
four contenders- Enough for first, second and third.
Still sorting through all the video and photo.
Feel free to post up your photos and post for anyone that wants to chime in. Great event!! We couldn't have been more happy with the outcome. NCKA at our finest. --Keith

Thank you everyone for coming out and supporting the tournament. A very big thank you to all the sponsors. It was definitely a long day going on an hour of sleep but it was totally worth it! I'm glad the fish was biting although all were small it was at least action! The leopard shark crashed the party it seem like but it provided some line tugging. Just glad some keepers were found! Congrats to all the winners.
Have some great footage and a few pictures that I took on the water. I'll be going through it and post it when I'm done.
Once again THANK YOU for coming out and looking forward to next year :)
-
I came out, but I guess I missed the party - no one was there at sunset! :smt001
Good job, guys - sounds like a great event.
-
PS: I scoped out the ARW from a bit higher up the next day. :smt001
I wish I could've made it down to hang with the fam earlier in the day yesterday.

CONGRATS to all who fished and placed and THANK YOU for the very generous donation to PIF!!!
