Off topic question. Is tying flies way cheaper than buying, or is it like that whole lead thing? Some of those things are like $3-5$ a pop. Can't see what would cost, just a tiny hook yea?
Cheaper after the initial investment.... But it's also way more of the "lead thing".. Catching even a steelie smolt on a fly I tied is way better than a bigger fish on a store bought.

Hey Fly Guys, since we're in a giving mood, I have the following stuff.  I have no idea where I got it.  I know I didn't buy it.  But it's been in my garage for awhile.  I have no idea if it's useful or any good.  If you can use it, it's yours.  Just toss me a few finished flies every now and then.

+2, that looks like either the orvis or jack dennis starter kit, would be a great raffle prize for someone looking to get into tying, cameron

Yeah, thought about that.  But I'd guess the number of people that would appreciate and use something like this is small, and it would end up getting re-gifted or sold.  So I thought I'd offer it up to someone that may actually get some use out of it.  How about this?  Make a donation (whatever you feel is appropriate) to PIF and it's yours.

Looks like a great beginner kit. Tying isn't for everyone but often people who get into get really serious about it.

Hey Matt, is that your new Echo 8/10 in your Avatar? So are you sending snap-T lasers across the river now?

Nice score Matt. :smt006

Since I started tying my own, I've spent more $$$ on materials, than I would of ever spent on buying pre-tied flies.
Plus all the hours spent at the vise, the mess, the booze...O' man! but I love it, it's awesome, it's now a addiction. I'm glad I got into it. :smt001
If you don't like to challenge yourself or take the long and more difficult road, then don't get into fly trying. Fair warning :smt002
For me, if I wanted to save money I would quite tying my own flies but the feeling of catching fish on your own creation is pretty rewarding. Even if your just copying some signature fly, it's still really cool.
My morning 2cents. :smt005

Nice! I spent a week trout fishing a couple weeks ago, had a great 30+ fish day on the Pit and other streams fished well too, biggest fish landed for the week was 4lbs+. Already thinking about spey rods, scandi heads and summer steelhead in So.Ore. I need to get on some salmon with the spey rod too, will trade some spey casting help for undisclosed locations, LOL
