I wished I had my flyrod a couple of weeks ago at the Bogega Harbor jettys. Rockfish would have been very doable that day. They were only 15/20' down and fun on conventional gear.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

There are a few fly anglers and fly chuckers like myself. I don't swing flies much anymore but still tie them for other applications. Ricky (paddles and flies) used to be our central valley expert. Good guy so send him a PM.

I know quite a few. They just don't post their fly-fishing reports.  A good buddy who I fished with at TC 2 weekends ago is now at the Umpqua targeting Steelhead.

I love fly-fishing but live in Santa Cruz...  which is not close to any good fly-fishing waters that I know of.  That's why I started yak fishing!  I love hitting Sierra streams and lakes when I can.

Check out my members only report from HMB on 8/3. Bill got 4 lings on a Fly Rod, strictly catch and release. I was quite impressed with his setup.  I like to go popping for bass once in a while the opportunity presents itself.  Used to do it more often when I lived in Texas.

All I do is fly fish, but most of my fishing is either in a float tube or back country hike ins.  I am going for Pauite trout this weekend, an over night hike in trip.  Next weekend going in for golden trout into Raymond Lake.  I use to post tons of reports on Kiene's fly fishing board and just got burnt out on posting reports.  I am trying to get back into the swing of posting.  When I get back to the ocean fishing it will be all fly fishing.  I use to fish conventional gear and bass tournaments, but fly fishing is just a whole new world that I love.  I try to get out at least 2 or 3 times a week.  Now I have taken up using a Tenkara rod for fly fishing and am really loving it.  Talk about going back to the most basic of basics.

So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Personally I would love to see more pics of fish caught on the fly. Fellow fly rodders post up a and show yourselves! It would be awesome to have a fly only get together. Maybe somewhere along the coast in September when the rockfish move in shallower?

P.S. check out the black rockfish I caught at Albion on the fly over the weekend.

Hiked into Silver King Creek this last weekend with hopes of catching Pauite's, but all we found were wild rainbows.  Used my Tenkara rod the whole time, it is much litter to hike in with.

Bill let me know when you want to hit the saltwater for some fly action, I am down for that.  I might hit the surf this weekend in hopes of catching my first striper in the surf.

TCat, saw you are in Modesto.  I grew up there and just moved back here to CA from East Coast.  I'm over in Bay Area now.  I do a lot of fly fishing and I'm looking to get out more.  Sort of excited to get out in my kayak and that usually is more productive with conventional gear, but I'm up for anything.  I'm heading up to the Sierras this weekend (Pinecrest) and will definitely be doing some fly fishing over on the Stanislaus.  If you're ever heading over to the Bay Area for some fishing, send me a note.

Collin.

Hey Scott, I'm probably launching by the Old Pier in Pillar Point harbor this Sat 8/17 around 7 or a bit earlier if all goes well. Let me know if you can make it.

Good luck on the surf. I've never caught a striper there myself - although I've tried.

Interesting that it was frequently getting skunked flyfishing the surf that got me into kayak flyfishing in the first place. With a boat I can actually catch some fish!
