Thanks for the report Mike. Hopefully crabbing gets better.
Yeah, me too Moo. Conditions weren't great and I really didn't expect them to be.  There was a 3 knot ebb for most of the morning. I didn't know the current could be that strong there.

I found it slow today.  Crabbed Doran from 10:30 - 2:00 all by my lonesome.  Although, there were a number of pots out. Ended up with 2 take home Rocks. I was expecting the wind to be from the NW but instead it was from the SW.  Nothing too bad but it was consistently windy past the wind shadow of the jetty.  The swell was manageable but some big rollers would come through on occasion.  On my last two outings I've noticed the swell and wind come down after 12P.  I find this to be the opposite of most sites on the north coast.  Used three Promar Ambush traps.  A good day; nice drive up, improved my crabbing technique little by little & trap handling, got some exercise, and had a nice drive back.
Thanks for that brahhdah Mike...what is your bait? :smt006
Chicken drum sticks and squid.  The first pull was promising...1 almost legal dungie and several smalls.  Then, after that, it was an occasional rock crab.  Ya think the bait made the difference?  I could have tried harder and used, in addition to the bait cages, the "chum" jars I got from Dicks. The other day when I got the 1/2 limit I used squid, chicken, and anchovies.  May have to go back to that concoction.
I am not sure but the pros put whole ling and rockfish carcass on the wire and have something fresh smelly milking out of the cans...I tend to want to pack that pot with a mess of edibles on the wire, whole heads attached with carcass and a mess of oily type fish that they cannot access in the mesh bag.  Chicken is standard bait so unless it is brined in massive smelly juice I would not resort to it unless I had to.  I like squid also but put chopped anchovies in the same bucket.  Others I am sure have secret recipes or not so secret ideas.  :smt006

Soak puppies? Sick! I’m gonna call PETA on you. :smt003

Nah, I never soak overnight. Heck, I can barely wait 20 minutes to check on my hoops. Although, it would probably be a lot more efficient.

Slacktide, can you elaborate on your chicken mash. I thought of using my partners smoothie blender to grind up my baits buy she probably wouldn’t dig that too much. :smt010

Yeah, my world doesn't allow for overnight puppy soakage...Bory lives 3 minutes from Doran, I'm an hour and 3 minutes from Doran...

For some that know me I usually just carpet bomb Doran with 14 traps for quick limits on Dungees n Rocks. Family has to be fed. I never soak overnight or stay more than 3 hour.

Thanks for the info. Ah, missed out on the sex herring. Maybe this coming year - I have my cast net ready to go.

brother Schills,  crabbin at doran can really suck and disappoint for a variety of reasons. Seek out and find the spots north of there and get into the 50-60ft depth where the thieving thins out and the crab thicken up. Surf launch skills are helpful.

I don't know lol but we dropped pots between goat rock and arch rock and there's plenty. The surf they're is kinda sketchy with pots... and it gets kinda windy. I'm content with dropping 4 pots overnite at bodega it gets the job done.
