You're right Pat. Not a striper.  Now looking more closely to pictures of stripers swimming in the water the fins are totally different. The rear dorsal fin looks longer that I thought and the front one has no spikes like a striper. So what is it Pat? Now Im guessing WSB

You guys are high if you think that's a striper! Look at the damned dorsal fins(s).  :smt003
How DARE you point out morphological characteristics Pat!?  :smt044

But yeah, the two dorsal fins look to be soft-rayed, the caudal lacks any kind of fork, and other than the distinctive lateral line I couldn't see any obvious black stripes.  This leads me to retract my guess of "mondo white croaker" and replace it with the  almighty BAT RAY!

I don't think it was a juvenile WSB or striper by the contour of the tail fin, too blunted. Cool video though and good crabbing with you and Sean. It was a a very productive day and sweet conditions. Let's hookup more often.

Yeah, upon further review I too see what Pat was pointing out. That second dorsal fin is way too long to be a striper. And that tail seem pretty straight, no fork at all.  Though I still think I see horizontal stripes... Must be some sort of digital artifact or pixelation.

Of course YFC are not commonly found north of Point Conception.  The croaker we have up here are white croaker, aren't they?  But the pic in the video looks bigger than your typical white croaker.  How big you think that thing is, 18"?  I can't really tell, so that's a wild guess on my part.

Joking about the yfc. But it kinda looks like one. It's probably a white croaker aka kingfish aka tomcod. But the cadual preduncle looks super skinny, which kinda adds to the mystery. And everybody loves a good mystery fish!
