Hello kayakfishing cohorts.  My kayak is now six months old and I am very psyched to find this excellent site.  Here's my virgin report :)

My buddy Jim took me on a bay tour Saturday and showed me how it's done.  The waves and wind were a bit sketchy most of that day, so we did a lot of plug trolling.  Here's Jim doing some of that fancy one-hand paddling that keeps a guy out of the rocks when a fish is on:

And the happy result:

Problem is, Yours Truly left with a skunko!  So I went out again Sunday night and the Gods really smiled.  The wind died down just as the sun was setting and the tide was cresting, and decent size stripers were sent to bring fly fishers great joy:

Caught some smaller ones too and had a bunch of frustrating strikes that came on the long pause.  Just before dark I recaught that first fish, or maybe it was his twin:

Boy did those guys pull on the old intermediate line.  I'd forgotten what a 6-8 pounder can do to a 7wt.!

Welcome to the site! I just found it myself a couple months ago and have already been out with folks a few times.  There is always an adventure with good company brewing around here somewhere. I'm up for fly fishing for stripers in the Bay any time, although at the moment I'm a little preocuppied with catching salmon...  Gabe

the salmon obsession . . . according to my big vacation plan for July, I'm going to stack the odds by fishing for them in the rivers, and just to make sure even I catch something, those rivers will be in Alaska  :smt003

Yeah I'm very psyched about the upcoming trip but meanwhile would love like hell to fish for them closer to home.  Are you working the Half Moon Bay area, or other spots?   I hope to get out for them at least once before July.

Give me a shout if you want some local paddling company.  I'm watching some of the nearby spots for increased striperage, doing little tests paddles now and then.  Might try a crossing this afternoon from Pt. Richmond to Pt. San Pedro (with a ferry schedule handy of course).
