Looking to experience free dive spear fishing this year. Money is tight. So, looking to purchase some good pre-owned equipment. Looking for Fins, mask, snorkel, weight belt, float line, light.

I have gun, booties and working on finding good wetsuit. Need the accessories .

Actually had a scuba license many moons ago. Have started to read up and watching videos lately.

Any advise welcome and of course sarcasm.  :smt002

Start off really shallow at first. Maybe shoot some sea snails or something. Heard they put up a hell of a fight.

That's awesome you wanna try some freediving Alex!

I have some old floatlines laying around that may be a little leaky but will work...after AOTY/DOTY is done I will look through my junk and see what I got that you can have...

My one word of advice (and it sounds like you are already doing this) is not to drop a bunch of $$$ on gear before you get a chance to get out there and see if you like it...

Have seen plenty of folks over the years buy a bunch of awesome gear, go diving, decide its not for them, and then have to sell all the gear...

Buying cheap and/or borrowing at the beginning is the way to go IMO...

We could do a shallow kiddy pool day when it is calmer and get you used to just diving up and down and looking in holes etc to see if you liked or hated it...

Another great way to kick start the learning curve is to take a freedive class...my buddy Kris (I think you met him the day you had a shoulder issue and he and matt were there to help in the effort to get you and your yak back in) will be at AOTY/DOTY awards tomorrow so could talk to him about the classes he offers etc.

He donated a class to PIF last year (Cochino has it I think), and one to the DOTY prize table for tomorrow.

What size shoes do you wear? I have some older mares fins that are plenty good still but may be too big for you.

I also have a decent Princeton tec dive light I found on the bottom one day that nobody ever claimed and still works (I think) that you could use if you can't get a better one.

Sincerely,

Jim

Thanks for the reply Jim. Look forward to any gear you might be able to help me out with. I honestly believe I am gonna "DIG" the heck out of diving. Your probably to young to know that saying.  :smt002

I think with starting out slow and progressing over a longer period I will truly enjoy the sport . When I obtained my dive card in Newport ca. when I was in the service, it was definitely a great experience.

When you talk about kiddie pool. I am all for it. I actually plan to just do some shore swimming and very shallow diving to begin with.

Hope to see ya at AOTY event tomorrow. No Bear hugs. I don't like smelling your armpits.  Not that they smell or anything . :smt044

I think you smoke cigars right ? I have a few nice ones for you.

I have duplicates of just about everything so you are welcome to use them if you make it up north but going out in 2' visibility is probably not going to get you hooked so SWS may be a better option.

VK just posted some. Also, I have a "shorty" speargun, a Riffe 00, that I have been looking to sell. Fully refurbished except for the trigger mech, which works just fine but the detent ball is gone from the safety lever. I was asking $200, but you could make an offer.

I have this gun which will do for now due to funds. Bought it a few years ago in anticipation that i would be diving.  :smt007

Debating on wether i should remove rear handle stock for shallow dives ?

It's a 32 special AB Biller.

Allex,
I told you I have duplicate everything,
There telling me that pyramid will open again
In April.
If you bring your Dad up for a cutthroat
Fishing trip we could do a free dive off Warriors
Point after catching some monsters.
There's some gear on that reef for some practice... treasure hunting.
I even have enough weight to get your skinny
Sexy ass down.
I also have a extra dive board with gauges and iron.

Ps if BJim passes on the stoggies
You can hummer me with them. HaHa

I don't know what size foot you are but I have a set of fins that are a little large for me.i wear a 9 1/2 - 10, so if you want em you can have it.its in your budget of free.these are really good for shallow water
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it
