So, I went fishing last Friday at Anderson Reservoir.  Stupid me, I didn't put sunblock on my legs, and I was out there for a good 6 hours.  Shins got burnt to a crisp.  Anyways, I noticed on Sunday night that the right-side of my right foot was numb from my ankle to my heel, and foward to my small toe.  I went to the doctor on Monday and they said it was a condition called Sural Neuropathy, which in my case was most likely caused by the combination of the sunburn, which also caused swelling in my ankle, and the fact that I was leaning my leg on the inside of the kayak.  They told me to take NSAIDs for 5 days to reduce the swelling and I should notice over time that the numb area should decrease in size.

Have any of you experienced anything like this?  I started getting a little concerned when I tried to self-diagnose on Sunday night when I started seeing potential causes like Multiple Sclerosis, Diabetes, Vitamin B12 Deficiency due to Celiac Disease, Hernated Disc, Sciatica....and so on.

My foot is still numb, but it's not affecting me any.  I'm just going to avoid walking barefoot (even in the house) because I probably wouldn't even know it if I step on a sharp object.

My legs used to go numb when I paddled the scupper pro.  My sensei directed me to roll up a towel and put it beneath my thighs while paddling.

The posture of that particular boat pinched something or other according to my size and body type.

You might try adjusting your seat differently, or even trying a couple different seats.   What boat are you paddling?

Boat is a cheap Field and Stream Eagle Talon 12' I got at Dick's Sporting Goods for under $500.  It's a starter boat to see if kayak fishing is a good fit for me.  If it is, I'll upgrade later on to a Hobie, Santa Cruz, or Ocean Kayak.  It has a rail-based foot peg system that I re-positioned several times while I was out.  Seat is a Surf to Summit GTS Elite.  I wasn't leaning my legs on the side the entire time.  Sometimes I was sitting with my knees directly in front of me, sometimes with my legs flat on the floor to stretch out, sometimes with my legs hanging out the sides, etc.

I had the same thing following a spinal fusion 3 months ago. However it was in my shoulder due to laying on the table for 6 hours. It lasted for about 10 days and then went away. They also call it positional neuropathy.

It's been nearly 2 weeks.  The numb area is getting smaller,  but there is still an area with almost no feeling at all.  At least it's getting better and not worse.
