I went by GG Park this Saturday for the free fly casting lesson they give every month, and had a blast!  This was my first lesson, and I really don't know much yet.  Well, I now know much more than I did before the lesson!

They have free loaner rods from Echo(which are actually really nice rods designed by a member of  the club who was a champion fly caster).  The guys who came out to help teach were all super nice, had tons of knowlewdge, and didn't make us feel stupid. They taught both the roll cast and the standard front cast, and then had free hotdogs and sodas and chatted with the new folks for and hour.

One of the instructors also got me started with shooting line and double-hauling, both of which I though I'd have to wait a while for.  I'm not great at them yet, but I can do it!

I walked away feeling like I had some aptitude for this casting thing, and like I want to take my first stab @ some fly-caught trout next weekend, as well as to try to figure out how it all applies to the kayak!  I'd recommend the class for anybody who wants to learn or work on the basics with some guys who are really willing to help a clueless new guy.

You can email RSVP for the lesson online, just to let them know how many folks to expect. I'll be going back soon!

Nice guys, nice place, a mile from my house!

Hi Fendente:

Thanks for the Intel. I booked a trip last year with Ricky of "Paddles and Files" and had a great time at "Franks Track". I have also fished around
"Yellowstone". Flyfishing is a lot of fun but, I can only afford Salt I would love to own a Sage for when I'm off the Treadmill.

Also, watch for the other events they have, such as spey casting tournaments & lessons, etc.
GGACC is a world class club and the casting ponds in GG Park are known as some of the best in the world.

Rick, I went to one of the free lessons a few months ago. I can't go next weekend but let's hook up some time; I'm near Mission Dolores.

Those guys are awesome...and enthusiastic helpers.

I would consider paying a monthly fee if someone would stock the pond full of trout!

Rick, we might be neighbors! I'm in the mid-Richmond avenues off California Street. I wonder if yours is the truck I see parked on La Playa by the Great Highway??? I forget the make, but it always has two fishing kayaks on top....

Lets go fishin!

Rick, thanks for the post.  I've been wanting to go there for free lessons.  I've heard nothing but good things about GGACC and its helpful members.  I've been there once before just to look around.  It's such a cool location.

I fell in with rollerblades on once, but ide love to go back with a flyrod.
Open to the public everyday, it would be a great to get a group there sometime, maybe after work during the week before the time changes?...

Good idea. I'd be up for that.
