I did lake powell about 5 years ago with my (now) wife.  We kayak camped and fished and had a blast.  Sucks about those winds - that would really make it tough out there.  Even though we had great conditions, we didn't do as good on the fish as you . . but, like I said, we were not yet married.  If I went back I'd probably do a lot better fishing . .and there's no way in hell she'd be willing to go with me   :smt003

Thanks for the report and pics.  I hope to get another crack at Lake Powell someday.

I can't wait for Shelter Cove!  Some of my best NCKA memories are of that place - chilling at the campground, great fishing, locals firing gunshots/fireworks on the beach, the time we met the "fire chief" of Shelter Cove . .

Well I'm in for GS8 and bringing a buddy from TX as well.  We're leaving San Antonio on 5/11 - gonna do some pre-fishing on the way out.  Look forward to seeing some of you again and meeting some of the new folks as well.

A lot of guys, including Eric, stayed down there to fish today.  I think ppl are just waiting for the GS5 "master thread" to show up . . probably will by tonight or tomorrow.

It was good - lots of fish caught.  Some good pics are coming.

(what's everyone else going to drink?...   :smt003)

Dude . .I happened upon a spectacular sale on Hornitos Tequila (remember when I asked you how many ppl you thought were coming?).  I hope everybody likes margaritas :)

I'm in!  I talked to the big man and will get my money to him this weekend.

BTW - I didn't read all the posts but I read some about Jack being upset about ppl staying for free in the campground.  Well, the thing is he actually spoke to my brother and I while we were looking for our friends and sort of accused us of sneaking in for free.  We didn't stay at the campground and we told him that . . . .I am not sure he believed us.

It was a chaotic seen with lots of people milling around.  It's possible that at least some of the people he thinks snuck in actually did not.  Just sayin'.

BTW - I definitely want to crash in somebody's site this year.  I will, of course, chip in for the site as well as bringing a large amount of party supplies :)

Let me know who's got a spot . .A-Hulls?  I'm rowdy . .but in an almost 40, NCKA kind of way.  Think "Permanent Vacation" Aerosmith vs "Toys in the Attic" Aerosmith, lol.

Fish Talk / Re: EEL RIVER salmon article
« on: November 19, 2010, 01:59:41 PM »
Everybody and thier mother knows about the run - I was there yesterday and met a guy from Novato who'd heard about it.  Not only was there that T-S article but it's been mentioned in other articles and posted about on other sites.

It's pretty cool, though . . it's all catch and release and F&G are also aware - they were there yesterday checking people at High Rock.  Not only that but a huge run in is happening on the Smith, where you can keep a fish, and is drawing a lot of anglers up that way.  Even on the Eel, everybody was talking about the Smith and, from what I hear, what's happening on the Smith makes the Eel look like nothing.

BTW, I suck at Salmon fishing because in the middle of the most epic run ever I couldn't catch a freaking fish  :smt013  :smt013

It's looking good for me - most likely will be able to go.

Think I'm in the clear to fish at least Thursday am.  If the window opens, I'm paddling through it.

The man is determined - I've been hearing it in his voice for weeks!   :smt003

My job sucks lately.  I'm getting a vibe like it would be extremely unwise of me to skip out on work tomorrow AND Friday.  Friday I'm headed to Trinity lake for the weekend so I have to bail on the Cape.  DamnDamnDoubleDamn.  I've been waiting all summer for conditions like this   :smt013    My only consolation is that, while these days are rare, we'll get a few more chances this year.

With any luck, though, I'll get on the AOTY board with a nice smallie from Trinity.  Good luck catching all those 40 inch lings I just know you'll catch (goddamnitsomuch).

General Talk / Kayak fisherman uses novel bait

http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2010/06/lewisberry_kayaker_charged_wit.html

A preliminary hearing was held in Cumberland County Monday for a Lewisberry man who was charged with indecent exposure, open lewdness and disorderly conduct following an incident on May 21, when Upper Allen Township police were summoned to Simpson Park for a report of a kayaker who had exposed himself.

Police said witnesses described a male kayaker who had exposed himself and "masturbated at fellow kayakers." Police identified the kayaker as Thomas Restagno, 49, who was later charged via summons.

The June 14 preliminary hearing was held before District Judge Mark Martin and all charges were bound over for the Cumberland County Court

OK - fess up.  Who's on a roadtrip this week?

That was probably the most pronounced mixed swell I've ever been in.  The waves were small . .something like 4-5ft from the NW and 1-2 from the W but it was, as Eric said, like riding a mechanical bull.  I'm usually pretty stable on the ocean but I felt like my chances of getting knocked off the yak were 50/50.  All it would've taken is a 2-3 footer from the W since I could only point my bow into 1 set.

I was bummed to call it quits but happy to land dry and with all my gear.  I have never had much success fishing in water like that, anyway.  Definitely enjoyed the next spot a lot more.  A few fish would've been nice but at least I could take my eyes off the water long enough to open a beer.  Anyday spent fishing on the lost coast is a good one.  But, yeah, enough of this rough weather/no bite stuff.  Let's get with the summer fishing!

Eric - Another nice video but I like the ones with fish in them better  :smt003

Wish I could meet up with you but I'll be out of town this weekend.  I don't know what's up with summer this year but it just won't seem to get here and this upcoming weekend looks to be another blown-out, sloppy one.

In case it's too gnarly elsewhere, I've seen people spear-fishing at the South Jetty and doing pretty well.  A few weeks ago I got skunked while these 2 guys diving about 100 yards down from me cleaned up limits in like an hour.

The lagoons are fun to fish in, as well.  Freshwater would probably be my choice this time of year although I love to hit Stone super early in the morning for the (very) occassional cut-throat.

Have fun - looking forward to the report.

Sounds like we need some veggies!  Someone bring a salad!!!  (smiling chicken w/ head cut off emoticon)

I will get a few bags of lettuce and dressing.

I will bring some salad as well.

Starting the gear prep.  The swell is looking to be great and the wind could be a factor but shouldn't keep us off the water.  See you guys there on Friday night.

Woo-freaking-hoo.
