Looks like my battery starts loosing juice  after 6 hrs OTW, so looking for either backup battery or battery tray. I have spare vhf, but keep that one for emergencies.

I had a battery lesson yesterday.  12amp 7.5 amp hours ah, ran a livewell and a fishfinder starting at 6:30 am, got a glitch at 2:00pm on the ff screen.  That is about right because 6:30-2 is 7.5 hrs, so my battery worked according to amp hours.  What amp hr battery are you using?  WTB is at walmart in the camping section.  the small one holds a 5ah 12v and the large one holds my 12v 7.5ah battery.  I dont know if this helps. :smt006  Great to meetcha yesterday, still hurting from the wind workout.

Here you go: http://www.westmarine.com/buy/standard-horizon--lithium-ion-battery-pack--14497663?cm_mmc=PS-_-Google-_-Shopping_PLAs-_-14497663&adpos=1o1&creative=108421552444&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=CM2wofryks4CFVKEfgodYH0H8w
Thanks. Yes, they are still available and I probably will go for battery tray,  as more universal - just thought maybe somebody has one they don't need.

See if the unit will transmit  at full power with the tray, the one's I looked at only allow the unit to transmit at low power. Would suck if you could hear every one but no one can hear you.

Thanks! I did not think it could have limitations

Also check how long the batteries will last. I had some disappointing results when mine was new. I haven't used the tray since. I keep it to extend my use over multiple days.

Using alkaline or rechargeables with the tray?  Alkaline are 1.5v, and rechargables are 1.2v, so less voltage on the rechargables may be an issue for your VHF if it's expecting say 12V, but only getting 9.6v.

Yup.  There are likely limitations.

I don't remember if I tried lithium batteries. The oem battery lasted a lot longer, at least with the GPS enabled.
