My buddy Omar just got thrown out his yak  almost hitting the jetty at the mouth of HMB.
They didn't bother to slow down right next to us and it was obvious what would happen at such a narrow spot.

Be careful even in the harbor and tight lines .

Some of these guys charge full speed ahead before leaving the jaws...well aware that there's yakkers and it's a no wake zone. Seems like these guys think they own the harbor. Stay safe friends

Report it to the USCG and the sheriff.
The skipper is treasurer of the San Mateo County Harbor District...and also accused of sexual harassment.

And the victim also happens to be the commissioner of SMCHD. Maybe she's should also be contacted...

This incident should be reported to the HMB Harbor Master.
I am always on high alert going through the jaws there.  Most boats dont slow down and disregard the no wake rules inside the harbor.

Sorry to hear that man. I've had some close run ins around the mouth of the harbor, but it's best to stay on
the inside of the main channel. I'm sure that is what you guys did , but sometimes we can only do so much on our end.

It also gets dicey when the big boats exit the harbor. They turn on the jets and it leaves some pretty big waves.
I'm extra cautious around the mouth of the harbor. If there is a place to get flipped it's gonna be there. Hopefully your friend is ok. --TLA

For some boats, slowing down will create a larger wake.

That is absolutely true. However, they are not supposed to speed up on now wake zone to begin with. I hope this get reported to proper authority that can address it quickly. By the way Omar is OK I got text from him this morning.

I texted the captain of Ankeny Street this morning. He works at the harbormaster office. Sorry to hear that Omar.

kayakers should not mill around the mouth of the harbor.  paddle through as fast as you can and clear the boating channel.   If you cannot handle boat wakes, you shouldn't be there.

oh man that sucks... i always try and look back/ahead and shoot through quick when it's clear. if you get caught, better know how to handle the wakes.  early morning at the green can (when PBs are heading north for a hot bite through the channel) is a different story... i feel like a frog trying to cross a freeway.... WATCH OUT!

Duh. That's what we did. How can we go faster than charter boat? They came from behind and passed us hella fast right at the mouth. Elaborate us how to clear it. I guess most of my friends shouldn't be there according to you.

A few boats sent me on a roller coaster on Saturday. With the fast swell my kayak was rocking not just side to side, but spinning like a top back and forth. It was adventurous. Yeah at HMB I just look around and see if any boats are closing in. Then pedal as hard as I can. The charter boats seem to give less of a crap about it than most. So I just give it a quick look around to make sure nobody will come in while I’m pedaling through.
