A second radio is pointless for me. I carry a ACR ResQLink as a backup to my VHF (which I only really use for the DSC distress signal function).

I carry one of those too, but not really the same as having a backup VHF (which, btw, I also have...)

Well, yeah. I guess I was reading this in the sense of what happens in a worst case scenario. I was only providing an alternate solution for backup in case of VHF failure that works for my situation being deaf and all (therefore radio is limited help).
Thresher in avatar and Soupfin Shark in signature both caught and pic taken by me.

Always looking for new people to fish with!

Out of curiosity, what do you have your squelch set at, Tinker?

I really don't know, but I'll wander out to the garage when the sun comes up and check it and let you know.  After fumbling around truing to find how to adjust it (mine's one of those where it's in the menus) I just increased squelch until it was nothing but static, then backed it down to where it stopped hissing at me, and that worked.

Before I did that, mine would broadcast but I couldn't hear anyone reply.

I'll get back to you.

Dude take it to BassPro or West Marine and do a radio check with one of their demo models. Just turn on one of their demos and set to channel 16 or whatever channel, then start talking into your radio lol...

Just another excuse to stop by BPS I guess.
