As I loaded up this morning I noticed my straps had seen better days and made a mental note to replace em but thought they had a few more trips left in em.   

Just before hitting the road I decided to give them a good pull to make sure...,  SNAP!

Don’t be a cheapskate like me and push your luck.  If you see any dust come off when cinching down, it’s past time to replace.   Luckily I had extras on hand.

So glad it didn’t happen on 880.

Great advice. I'd recommend some wide heavy-duty straps, even if it seems like way overkill.
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

Ruben has a pair of Yakima straps that have wire inside and lock.  I’m gonna look into those.  Seems like a good product.
