Will be new to kayak fishing in Sacramento River this summer. My current rods are all surf rods ranging from 8-10ft paired with two shimano stradic ci4 4000. I can used my reels, but I'm pretty sure 8'6 rod (my shortest I currently own) is too long.
Kayak fishing seems to be a new world when it comes to rod/reel.
I plan to fish both striper and salmon. Can you all share what rod and reel you use for trolling, spinners, bait, etc? What's the min/max length rod recommended for jig/spinner/troll? Most people I see are using bait caster. I see lots of people are a fan of Shimano trevala 7ftMF. It's rated for 2-4oz lures. Would this rod just be for jigging? Whats the heaviest oz sinker/lure would you use in Sac/amer river around sac area?

You want a rod that long enough to clear your kayak bow.  Depend on your budget, an Ugly Stik will do just fine but if you want high end rods, the sky is the limit.  Use just enough weight to keep your bait on the bottom for Stripers or bottom feeding fish.
