Went out to Gerstle early Sunday.  Sheep in the meadow when I got there so I decided to stay in tight just outside the reserve.  Spent 2 hours in the water for 28" ling, 18" cab, and 9 blues.  Saw one other ling that was marginal so I let it go.  Sweet structure out there.  Lots of caves and holes.  Water was cold and clean.  20ft vis.  Pretty sweet.

Nice, Dave!!
Did you dive in the middle of the cove straight out past the imaginary yellow line or south of the cove? Saw any big abs outside the preserve?
I only dove Gerstle Cove once (in the preserve), saw some abs that can easily rival the state record sitting out in the open!
I was out on Saturday from South Gerstle Cove. Wind was blowing so bad that my boogie board was pushing me around! I picked up 3 smallish abs 7.5-8.25 and took a limit of fat blues. Checked a lot of crevices and holes but nobody was at home.

I dove on the North side of the cove out by the tip of the point.  There is an area there that usually breaks but Sunday it wasn't.  It was a little sheltered from the wind too.  As soon as you turn the corner to the north around the point it gets rough if it's windy.  Did you have clean water Saturday?  I wasn't paying much attention to the abs because I was only taking fish.  I've used up 1/2 my ab card already so I'm saving some for the second half of the season and better locations.  I sure like having my kayak better than a boogie board.  It is such an easy launch there too.  We will have to go together sometime, and get Fuzz out too.

Dave,
Saturday I had 10-15 ft of vis. Great for that area. I was hiding in a cove, behind some washrocks to take shelter from the wind. It was not surprising that abs are all picked over. From 10-20', the abs are flat and small. I had to dive to 25' to get into some slightly bigger/deeper models.
Yeah let's get together sometime.
