Title: Blood Donation
Post by: Freddie on August 07, 2006, 06:03:24 PM
Yeah... this happened to me...

Just a reminder... be very careful when carrying your yak down an embankment. Done it a million times and BAM!!! Slipped, fell... I'll let the pictures do the talking for me... Just be careful out there...

Damn... dude... you weren't kidding about it being a nasty gash.  Isn't that yellow stuff in the cut your body fat?  Yikes.
I'm glad I saw this after I ate dinner.

I suggest power pro - 10# test  :smt002

Fred , just chew on some rice, spit it on your hand and rub it into the gash and your good to go - rice cures all  :smt002

Why hasn't anyone said, "yep, head wounds bleed a lot."? Isn't that what you are supposed to say when someone gets a head wound?

Looks bad, but I hope you're feeling better now. I hear it helps if you rub a ling on it.

CHEERS!

When I first read this, I saw that Triple in the background and I knew you didn't have a Triple.  But mine is currently being loaned to Stuart ...  then it dawned on me, or rather Stuart told me.  That IS my Triple in the background.  Boy was I relieved to hear that it was NOT the kayak responsible for the beating.   :smt004

BTW, Huggies diapers work pretty good on head wounds.  Just wanted to share this tip with any NCKA member's with kids still in diapers   :smt040

Thanks for the concern guys. It really looked worse than it was... until the next day. Then, it just hurt more than it looked. I'm feeling like I just paid my dues... again. Other than that, I'm seriously looking to go savage on some fish up at Elk. Oh yeah... I'm feeling the need... the need to make some poor fish BLEED!!!

Bill-
I thought about running over to Long's for a needle but, Stuie didn't think he could handle doing the stitch job.

Pat/Mooch-
I would've opted for mono over braid... I'm guessing that it'll be less painful when it comes time to pull those suckers out.

MahiMahi-
That's exactly what I said as I laid there bleeding all over myself.

Allen-
Stuie thought something like this was going to happen on his driveway when I heaved the triple onto his Tahoe by myself. Turns out... that was as easy as the day got. It went all down hill from there...

I can't stitch, but I'm good w/ Needle nose pliers.  Or I can grab a staple remover from the office supply room.
Either way, this will save you trip to the doc next week when the staples need to come out.

Your pal,
Stuart :smt005

how do they get those staples out anyways? I guess they must cut them.

They come out slick as can be with a special staple remover.

Stu, I can't believe you wasted a perfectly good diaper for the "Savage"  :smt003

By the way, it was comforting to now that Fred bleeds after all  :smt002 For a while there, I though he was a "super being"  :smt003

What I want to know is if you fished before getting stitched up.

Mooch-

I bleed like a stuck pig most of the time. I've donated so much blood out there it ain't even funny. No biggie... my body produces more.

J-

I was tempted since I had the kiddies there and they wanted to. But, I figured it would be best to just go to the ER.

GOOD NEWS... Since nobody was willing to take these staples out at Elk... I'll be getting them out tomorrow... I can finally get a haircut now.

Freddie~

You need to carry this with you. That way your fishing will not be interrupted next time.

Just clean the wound very well.  Pack some betadine solution in the kit with the stapler.

Maybe it is just me, but I don't think treating an arrow wound is a "do-it-yourself job"...

Hey guys,

That's a great thing to have around. It would've saved me 6 1/2 hours in a ER waiting room and the pain of taking the staples out myself with little wire cutters. One question... is there anything around to numb the area before the stapling party starts up??? The shots in my scalp HURT...  ALOT...

The shots hurt worse than the staples.......if you are only going to have one or two put in.  Two to 5 staples is a grey area.  More than 5 you are getting into a large wound and need to give some thought to something more than clean and shoot.
