So I finally retired my 7 year old Trident 13, not just because it was old but because I thought there was something notably better. Thanks to Dan @ Headwaters for hooking me up!

Wanted to paddle it pretty bad so I launched Del Valle for a quickie on the way to Mother's Day Festivities. Half assed rigged the FF, grabbed the fly rod and a couple of clousers. Paddled across the from the boat launch and went about a quarter mile and marked a small school of fish, 3rd cast I pick up a 16-17" striper, boat has MOJO! Paddled all the way to the dam into the wind, very nice! Marked a school of fish off a point near the dam but couldn't get one to cooperate. Drifted back looking for another school and didn't find anything until I was back where I caught the first fish. Bingo, another fish about 20", good few hours considering I haven't fished Del Valle in 3 years.

Don't know what happened to the pic, I think there was too much black and white for the camera to figure out...

Nice kayak! Are you going to cut out the center hatch for a rod pod?

Nice kayak! Are you going to cut out the center hatch for a rod pod?

That was the original intention but apparently it voids the warranty. If my gear sticks will fit in the small round hatch without the reel then I may live with it for a while.

Either that or I will just take the trident on heavy surf launches, I really don't want to land  the Caribbean in a crazy shore break similar to BH anyway...

Paddled better than anything else I tried by a noticeable margin. FF install wont be as clean because I don't want to go thru hull so I will have to resort to an arm. I'm willing to make that tradeoff for everything else. This thing is going to be a fish slayer!

Suction cup mounted the Dragonfly FF on top of the rod pod. I did kick it going to side saddle but it stayed on. Had the battery box in the front location and ducer off the side for initial trials. After some salt runs I will install the ducer in the hull and see if I notice a difference.

Also will try side mounted on the track for the FF but for fly fishing I like to swing my leg off either side and strip my fly back. Problem is the rod sits right on the track.

Being able to completely remove the FF and ducer is nice though.

Sup Tiny!?!?! e14 is noticeably faster and dryer.  Does seem to get pushed around by the wind a little more. Best thing is the weight...stoopid lite, should make a Big Sur cliff launch easier! Haven't took it on big blue yet only on Del Valle and the Sac river both on windy days. I haven't missed full access to the inside of the hull through the rod pod yet but when I fish on the ocean I take more gear so we shall see. So yeah, no regrets, highly recommended so far.
