Gearing Up and Rigging Up / 2018 Revo - Garmin Sonar Upgrade
« on: December 12, 2020, 02:42:24 PM »
Have been a Garmin fan , but with the Lowrance Ready sonar well, i thought i had little choice but to use a Lowrance, and I did thanks to a good friend's  gift.

But with the recent Black Friday deals, purchased a Garmin 9" GPSEcho at a sweet deal...thanks Santa!

The challenge was to figure out how to install the Garmin transducer in a mount made specially for Lowrance and without paying the $59 price tag of an aftermarket plate; which also looked ugly, extending lowing than the hull...

Did some preliminary measurements and broke out the dremel, trimmed away part of the upright braces on the plate and the transducer bracket, which allowed the transducer to move forward so the bracket hole align.

There was no need to secure the back end of the transducer,  because it was held in place by the plate when tightened down one the kayak.

Other than that, that's all it took to mount the  Garmin GT54UHD transducer in the Revo.

Fishing Tournaments and Events / Trap Shoot & Chill - Postponed
« on: January 31, 2019, 04:49:25 PM »
Anyone interested? Was gonna see if there was at least 10 folks who wanna to pool up to reserve a lane for 4 hours. Cost is $50, which would be split between everyone; so if we get 10 peeps, it would only be $5. This would guarantee us our shooting time, without having to wait in for an open lane to shoot.

That would be in addition to purchasing a token (25 clays) for each round you want to shoot; which with 10 shooters, we can get in 3, maybe 4 rounds it you wanna shoot that many. But with 10 folks, shooting 3 rounds, we could take our time and enjoy each others shot.

12ga shotshells can be purchased at the range; but the do not rent guns.

Location is at the Livermore Pleasanton Rod & Gun Range

General Talk / Lowrance Elite 7 HDI problems
« on: July 18, 2018, 03:53:05 PM »
Any Lowrance gurus know what wrong with my unit?

After pressing the power button on, the "Lowrance Elite" logo comes up and after a few seconds, it goes black/shuts off.

Thought it may be the battery, so i put it straight to a 12v power source; but still foes the same thing.

Unit has only been used 4-5 times; and always cleaned, including Dielectric grease on connectors...

Suggestions???

Hobie Kayaks / 180 Pedal Drive Upgrade: low-tech vs high-tech
« on: July 09, 2018, 05:02:49 PM »
Heard about upgrading the pull handles to a smaller length and was a less to get a pair from Allan Cross; but decided to see if I can make a cheaper version and here what I came up with. Less than $6.00 for all the parts: 2  nylon bolts and 2 nylon T handles... and a little bit of clear epoxy!
