Friday afternoon, met Fishunter and Otobepelagic at the HMB Kayak Company "camp ground" while the rest of the crew slowly trickled in. Weather was typical with wind and fog so we decided to hunker down and forgo launching out and setting traps. We built a fire and the party started. All I can say is lot's of beer, smoked salmon, man-chili and then dessert. Jim Beam was then served while we watched killer Kylo hump Red Dog :grommit: And later, we were treated to NCKA's first dog fighting event. = Featuring Killer Kylo vs. German Jake!! (Video and pics to follow) The Jim Beam kept pouring till Chucke reminded us that we had to be up in a few hours = it was 3AM and none of us had a clue :smt118
Saturday morning, more NCKA 'ers show up and the crab harvesting was on it's way. The wind and swell report was not exactly a "walk in the park" but the hardcore endured and many crabs were killed and the foodfest was on!!!
I'll let the others chime in and let the pics tell the rest of the story!!!
Congratulations to Eric B. for catching the biggest Dungie of the day and to Chuck E for the biggest Rock Crab!!!

Congrats to Eric B and Chuck for organizing. Really had a great time. Nice meeting new NCKA folks and watching Red eat crab shells.Reminded me of that movie Marley and Me. Ended up with 6 dungies and a nice red. A nice end to my 2009-2010 crab season. Glad rockfish season is here because I am kind of tired of eating crab. Never thought I would say that. :-)

Mark (now known as "yard sale") and I had a blast yesterday. It was great meeting everyone and putting faces to the names. Thanks for all of your generosity (the food and the knowledge)! We're looking fwd to getting out on the water with the crew soon...

CONGRADS to the NewKingCrabby!! and RockCrabChampChuck!! the smell of that boilling crab made me think i was walking FishermansWarf.
it was hot on friday when i got there.....so i took a nap. The wind was blowin pretty good and the water surface was almost capping. We b/s'd, grubbed&chilled into the late night(= I departed at 9pm.) Only to return with Mrs.FH in the morning. The crew was out dropping traps and Mooch was chilling, surrounded by others, like a Rockstar telling war stories. :smt002
I ate a claws worth of crab(it was all i could handle) and it was good. The mandogs were the only reason i showed up. :smt003 and the chowda' was VERY GOOD TOO, both of them(O2B & EWB knows chowda!! :smt004 Can't wait for the next one!!
Barb got her first severe sunburn of the year, maybe one day she'll listen to me. :smt011

No sunburn for me. Discovered that the Ram Tube will clamp onto my camp chair....

Allen "O2B" and Eric "EWB" competed in the chowder cook off. Allen made a traditional clam chowder (picture on the right below) while Eric made a crab chowder. Although Allen's chowder was loaded with lots of clams and potatoes which I preferred, Eric's chowder broth was off-da-hook delicious.
I think the real winners are the those who got a chance to sample them both!!!!

If you missed our CRABFEST this weekend... everyone will have another opportunity when the when the dungeness crabbing season re-opens Saturday, November 6, 2010.
The one change I propose is that we start the derby on Friday, November 5th to allow contestants to drop their traps early for maximum soak time. No pulling pots before midnight. That way if you sleep in Saturday morning after partying at camp the night before. :smt003

I wanted to join but being out of town so often leaves with honeydo's that have to be addressed.
Saturday was fix the kid's Explorer, do the front brakes on another car.Then cook beer battered fish tacos for the group of kids all going to the prom. Take the kids in the fixed Explorer (yeah!) to the train station at Roaring Camp so they could head down to Cocoanut Grove for the prom..
Sunday was more of the same.....
Looks like everyone had a blast.

I am pretty sure my wife, Amy, will appreciate the compliments. This is just one of her dessert specialty.
Though I was half sick OTW with half hangover, it was fun times! Good food, great company.

Looks like i missed out on the fun again! Congratulations to the winners of the biggest crab! I had the kids this weekend and i asked them if they wanted to go and learn how to catch crabs but they said they rather watch The Movie "How to train your Dragon" I was out voted. There for I will be at the November Crabfest!
