Got this email from the Kayak Connection folks tonight.

Quote
Join Kayak Connection Saturday, June 18 for a great fishing contest at Loc Lomond in Zayante.  A Prowler angler donated by Ocean Kayak will be the first place prize.   Releases and Entry Forms are available at Kayakconnection.com  The fishing should be epic with catches available on trout, bass, channel catfish, and crawdad's.  The season is wide open for your fishing pleasure.  It would be nice to have more participation from the youth and female classes.  The heaviest bass or trout wins.

All the entry fees are donated to the Mponterey Bay Salmon and Trout Project . www.mbstp.org .   Founded in 1976, the Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout Project (MBS&TP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration and enhancement of the native salmon and steelhead populations of the greater Monterey Bay area. To accomplish the goals of the MBS&TP has developed three major programs:
    * Coho Salmon and Steelhead
    * Chinook Salmon Enhancement
    * Salmon and Trout Education (STEP)
Over 240,000 King Salmon were released from our new Santa Cruz and Moss Landing pens in May and June 2005.

Come join the fun.

Heaviest bass or trout?

Good luck with the trout.  I will be bass fishing this tournament.

Big swimbaits will win the tournament, mark my words.

I would guess that you will have to beat 6 pounds to even hope to win if any anglers with bass experience show up.

Should be fun.

bbb..bass?  I would hate to have to keep a bass just because i thought it would win me a kayak.  Does anyone like those guys, last time I had a bass it tasted like ass  :drool2.  Maybe i could keep it alive until i saw how small it was compared to everyone else's.

Note the corrected date JUNE 18th.

I think they are planning on having weigh boats for the bass but again since I am not involved directly with this event I can't say for sure.

I will try to be there for the event. Man it would be nice feeding that pelican all my bluegills while DFG is watching.

Bass are fine table fare.

I was surprised to not see any mention of live weighing or dead fish penalty, but I am not beyond killing and eating a bass (emphasis on AND EATING) to win a kayak.

Or a big old bass fly!     In the past Mark has always wanted to barbecue the winning fish
Why Do I paddle a kayak instead of a float tube or a pontoon boat? I like seeing where I'm going not where I've been!
Paddle safe and wrap'em tight.

The lake is closed (was closed) due to treatment for an algae bloom.  It should be open now, but I have to help with my wife's dog show this weekend.

I will post more info as I get it.

No dead fish penalty is the word directly from kayak connection.

I am going to have to bail on this Derby because there is a BatRay Derby the following week at Berkeley Pier by PFIC; I had forgotten about it, and it is a once a year event. Good Luck with the Pelican and DFG.

The entry is still quite small for this tourney.

If you haven't entered, go for it.

Define quite small.  10, 20, 30, 40 entries?

I don't know the exact number, but the stack of entry sheets looked small.

The cause is good, the lake is fun, the bass are large.
