Nice work!

Thanks. I was pretty happy with the end result.

I like this style, but I'd need to buy a few more toys if I had extra space  :smt044
Ha! I try not to bring TOO many toys, but I do like having my whacker, cut-n-gut knife, water bottle, and scents handy.

Basically I use it to store things a I need to access frequently. It's best to keep your hatches closed if you can, especially off shore in rough water.

Good point!  What do you use for a whacker?  I'm going to make myself a custom gaff, so I was thinking to make a handle on a lathe and then weight it so I can use it as a bonker as well...not too sure if a separate whacker would be better so I don't need to worry about swinging a hooked whacker at an angry fish...

Nothing special about it. Just what I've got.

Have you found it to be heavy enough to take care of fish in the first bonk or two?  I was thinking to weight one if I make it so I get an extra good thud - I'm hoping for some big 'buts in the near future  :smt003

I would go for a separate wacker.

And I'd recommend some "Calcutta" bamboo for the gaff if you can find it. Strong and lightweight.

Had a nice homemade gaff for years, until it got stolen off my yak while I fetched my wheels from the car...

Now I have one of these Sea Striker gaffs. Works just fine.

No need to get fancy. I use a section of wooden closet rod. It is cheap, and floats if you should drop it.

Bigger halibut and salmon sometimes take a few good whacks, but it gets the job done.

There's really nothing special about it though. I do like that it's plastic so it's easy to clean. I've seen some pretty nasty well used wooden whackers...

Here is what I came up with for rod and gear storage, also this bonker (filled with 2lbs of lead) has subdued many a Cali-Hali as well and more than it's fair share of ling's and rockfish, even helped me quiet a few sturgeon.
