Title: NEW TO IT ALL
Post by: mikegrnwd on September 15, 2017, 04:21:54 PM
Been fishing and diving my whole life. I have been part of an outrigger canoe club so I am comfortable on the water. Now it is time to put all my loves together. I just purchased an Ocean kayak Big Game Prowler.  I also bought Lawrence elite fish finder. A little nervous to install myself.
Anyone know of a someone who would install? Also looking to meet up, fish, and have fun!!!

Do you have the Big Game 1 or 2? The Big Game 2 has the removable pieces that allow you to mount it without drilling the hull. With a side arm transducer holder and external battery box, you can do the whole install without drilling the hull. Then because you didn't drill the hull, you can make changes later if you like.  The older Big Game 1 looks trickier. It has the area in front of the cockpit tray for mounting a FF. The elite transducer probably won't fit in the scupper so you can do a thru hull mount. It should be pretty straightforward drilling the FF mount holes. Get a Hobie thru hull wiring kit to pass transducer and power wires through the mounting surface. Goop the holes good when you mount the FF. Do a search for through hull scupper mounts, no drilling needed for that. So four holes for the mounting bracket and one hole for the wire plug. Just remember, measure twice.

Someone might be willing to help you install that thing, if they knew where you were.

Welcome. Personally, I like to drill holes in my kayak, just to show the kayak who's boss....

Nice.  Found some online info that made me feel better about it.
Took it out for my first time this weekend. Had more fun then expected. And I expected a lot!! limit of rock fish.  One nice vermin and a White Sea bass.
Why did I wait so long to purchase my first kayak? Ready to do it again.

I'd toss that vermin back as we've got plenty already in my neighborhood. WSB sounds exciting. Got any pictures?
