Missed the opener due to honey-do lists, so going out tomorrow at HMB around 6am (to beat commute traffic, not because I am an early riser) :smt003.  The office can wait. Company welcome.

Report:

I will not sleep in again.
I will not sleep in again.
I will not sleep in again (x98)

Woke up at 4am, decided to sleep in, thought about going into the office, but since the car was already loaded the night before, left the house at 8am for HMB.  A 60 minute drive without traffic took me 118 minutes in morning commute traffic.  Arrived at 10am, unloaded, and pedaled out.  Then I remembered that I left my rod/reel at the unloading zone.  Dokes!

I will not forget my rod again.
I will not forget my rod again.
I will not forget my rod again.

Returned to harbor, got my rod/reels and dropped my 2 pots at 11am. Pushed the power button on my FF and nothing.  Pushed it again, and nothing.

I will check my battery BEFORE launching.
I will check my battery BEFORE launching.
I will check my battery BEFORE launching.

Actually, I charged it the night before, so I don't know what's wrong.  Will have to check tomorrow, as I am too tired right now to give a sh**

In prior years, opening day (or week) meant limits by the 1st or 2nd pull.  Today, I got 4 dungies in 5 hours... with 25+ shorts, and about 5 rock crabs. Didn't have my FF, but based on rope pulls, I'm guessing I was in 45 feet, and then in about 30 the final hour I was there.  I was shocked and disappointed beyond belief.  Even in late season, I've been able to get 6 or 7, and have never NOT limited at season's start.

There were lot's of bait around  (very small chovies), so I fished my sabiki around the bait and was able to get 3 mullets.  Dropped one down to try for halibut, but I think it got taken by a seal. Lot's of seals around... which made me "feel" better in light of the landlord sighting recently.  The remaining 2 mullets will be tomorrow's dinner. The family enjoyed the dungies, and hoping my rockfish/crab combo trip next week will have better results.

Hope you guys do better than me, and wishing you jumbos and full pots!

I worked four traps from 7 until 3 for a total of six keepers -- yes it was a slow pick. I set from 35' to 60' -- all the keepers came from 40' to 55'. Conditions were snotty and cold in the morning, but the winds finally changed and let up late morning.

First time crabbing off the Revo. I had to change up from the layout I used on the Manta Ray with carrying the traps up front, but it ended up working pretty well.

Cheers,
Brad

Thanks for the report.  John, you gave us all a reminder what not to do and you still caught fish and crab.  Better than I did with way more work to launch from Muir.  Glad you got some :smt006

Hey my day went alright for first time crabbing. Didn't get any dungies but a ton of rock crab, which I was happy with they all had big claws. Went right out of the harbor instead of left dropped my pot in about 35 ft. Then tried throwing swimbaits for rockfish in the kelp had two good slams but fish came off, almost looked like halibut teeth marks down the bait but who knows. Fun day anyway glad the wind layed down.
